White House to Congress: We Did Not See ISIL Coming

Senior Obama administration officials’ closed-door briefing to senators Tuesday night revealed that the White House did not anticipate and was not prepared for the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), which has wreaked havoc in Iraq and seized many key cities in recent weeks.

Top State Department and Defense Department officials joined senators Tuesday evening for a briefing on the quickly developing chaos in Iraq and future U.S. plans for a response.

Sources familiar with the brief said that the administration officials repeated talking points issued over the past several days in both open and closed door meetings and had trouble communicating a concrete plan for response.

Oh, we're so sorry about that. That's because while ISIL was in the initial stages, we were in the midst of planning other hard line Islamist movements for doing the same in other stable, Western friendly countries.

I think back to the chemical attacks supposedly committed by Assad, when the Syrian gov had nothing to gain from them. The administration seemed to assume that the "freedom fighters" were incapable of that, and continued arming, funding and training them.

The administration and our allies are way behind on the learning curve about who the threat to world civilization is. You'd think they would've woken up after ignoring warnings about the Tsarnov brothers.

Now you've got terrorist wannabees globally probably inspired by ISIS about how to get it done. I can't see how this ends well without using the approach the Egyptian generals did when the MB proved to be out of control maniacs.

Obama paid to train and supply them in Syria and is surprised when they invade Iraq, what a bunch of dumb asses!

The generals and Free Republic regulars saw it coming when we didn’t get a status of forces agreement and leave enough military in Iraq to stabilize the government. The CIA and Free Republic regulars saw it coming when we armed ISIL in Syria and didn’t bother protecting our own people. Pretty much everyone with common sense saw it coming when Obama boasted about “ending the war in Iraq” and clearly showed no interest in winning the war in Iraq. Obama has never seen anything coming until it was reported on the evening news.

There were two correct answers: we could have toppled the Iraqi government and told its successor to keep terrorists out of their country or they would lose power, or we could topple the Iraqi government and stay until long after they had a stable government as we did in Germany and Japan. Staying for years but announcing that we would leave before the country was stable convinced the terrorists to stay in the field until we left. Leaving prematurely then handed the country to those terrorists, and now things will get ugly for the West. Mission Accomplished for Obama.

The ideologically driven liberals resemble a Jihadist bomb maker who believes he is so smart that he can control the situation until the bomb goes off in his face and blows everything to smithereens. Look at Fast and Furious, the Arab Spring, Benghazi, and now ISIS where the traitors have used taxpayer dollars to train and arm the most rabid Islamists in the world. In all of these they likely had their own agenda that went awry such as arming ISIS to defeat Assad.. Nonetheless, they are not to be deterred since the chaos turns out to be a win-win situation for the anti-American bastards. Their end game is to overload and collapse America, consistent with the Cloward-Piven strategy.

For that matter, Al Jazeera has been reporting on the dangers to Iraq since large numbers of foreigners started flocking to Syria and the bombings started spiking in Iraq. I thought it was one of Obama’s favorite news sources.
