Justice Sonia Sotomayor Defends Affirmative Action

BY ROBERT BARNES June 22 Justice Sonia Sotomayor said she supports affirmative action in higher education because she believes that alternatives based on geographic or economic status don’t work to ensure a diverse student body.

Sotomayor has said race-conscious programs in the 1970s that opened Ivy League schools to minorities were essential to her rise from the Bronx public housing projects to her admission to Princeton and Yale Law School, where she excelled.

Sotomayor, the court’s first Latina, was asked by George Stephanopoulos in a segment taped for ABC’s “This Week” about programs that might increase diversity in higher education that would be “less fractious” than the use of race.

She said that other programs have not proved as successful in diversifying student bodies and that universities should be able to consider race and not just academic measurements.

Her mental faculties and her existence there on the court is more than enough to tell me all I need to know about affirmative action.

It angers me that she thinks it's okay that she took the college and law school places of more qualified students. But in that interview on ABC news, Sotomayer did score one point. That would be that legacy admission give unfair advantage to children of grads.

Except that someone smart enough to be on the Supreme Court should know that two wrongs don't make a right.

Well, it’s a “wise Latina” who knows how she got her job. It certainly can’t be because she was the caliber of Judge Antonin Scalia or Chief Justice William Rehnquist, God rest his soul.

Certain unconstitutional laws are ok if the right groups support them.

The purpose of affirmative action is to place people with IQs of 85 into positions for which they are completely unqualified.

Enter Sonia Sotomayor.

This isn't as much a defense of affirmative action as it is an indictment.

Well, Justice Sonia Sotomayor ought to know about Affirmaticve Action because she's a prime example of it. A Supreme Court Justice who was promoted to her level of incompetence. A perfect example of the Peter Principal in action.

The questions that should have been asked:

What do you say to those people who were passed over?

Were you “affirmative action’d” onto the Federal courts, including the SC?

Why shouldn’t the SC be composed of the best legal minds?

Why is crime, violence, underachievement the greatest in “diverse” cities?

Of course, many minorities think admission to elite colleges is just some sort of lucky lottery. If that were the case, then we could place students with SAT scores of 1000-1100 at Ivy League schools, and they would do just as well as students with scores several hundred or more points higher.

The fact is students with SAT scores below 1300 drop out at a far higher rate than students with higher scores. I don't even know if white students in 1300-1400 range can get into Ivy League schools.

Sotomayor is the perfect example of affirmative action. In a competitive world, her abilities, intellect and experience would qualify her as a paralegal. With that said, there is nothing wrong with being a paralegal. However, a mental midget sitting on the Supreme Court has long term negative consequences to our republic.

Sonya, baby, if you needed emergency brain surgery, would you be happy to know that your surgeon and your anesthesiologist were unqualified affirmative action placeholders - much like yourself?

If anyone needs to prove the folly of legalized racism disingenuously labeled affirmative action, just mosey on down to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
