DANVERS (CBS) A compromise has been forged in Danvers where veterans are upset that a POW/MIA flag outside Town Hall was replaced with a gay pride flag for the month of June.
The POW/MIA flag was taken down to mark Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual Pride Month. We just feel that spot to us is a sacred spot, said World War II veteran Bruce Eaton, who believes the pride flag is more a political statement. We think the public should be constantly reminded that these boys were the ones that preserved our right to hang banners and flags in places that we decide.
Its the second year the pride flag has flown, and its a point of pride for openly gay Selectman David Mills, who believes Danvers took a step forward.I feel included, part of my own community and I feel more welcome here, said Mills.
It was up to Town Manager Wayne Marquis to research flag etiquette and come up with a solution, saying the town wants to respect all viewpoints. We did what we thought was appropriate and didnt take into accountthe concerns that would be there, said Marquis.
Since the POW/MIA flag can only be flown under the stars and stripes, the rainbow flag will be moved to another pole flying the Massachusetts state flag for the rest of the month, equally symbolic as the first state to legalize gay marriage.
Veterans believe even one day without their flag is one day too many. This compromise will be met with a more permanent solution for next year as a steering committee will be created to come up with a protocol.

If any of these Vets voted for Democrats/Liberals they have no right to complain.
What if someone demanded a Christian flag be put up?
What moron authorized that? I was going to ask what pervert but then realized they’re probably a protected class.
It’s all queer all the time lately. Sick of it.
meet new post commander, Chelsey Manning.
When I was in school all the classrooms had two flags, the U.S. flag and the Christian flag and we said pledges to both of them each morning. Of course that was in “olden times” when everyone was a patriot, there was discipline, respect and actually learning in our schools and our country was morally sound.
This is why I have come to dislike government at all levels. They have to set up a "committee" to decide a damn thing like this.
THIS is a drop in the bureaucratic ocean.
I can’t stand Boston - period. Been a long time since it actually delivered anything that measured up to all of its hype. MIT, Harvard, BC - overrated. Even the vaunted Rte 128 is dead.
Even the clam chowder ain’t what it used to be.
It’s becoming obvious hat CW-II is not only in our future, but it is on our To Do list.
And please, remember ALL the people that do things such as described. Remember their names, their faces, and their addresses.
They will be dealt with...and they will not like the deal.
As for whoever put up that flag...they are known. I fully expect that honorable locals will take care of matters in an Obama-like manner (e.g., screw the laws...you’re getting nailed.) Hey, what’s good for the Obamahole is good for us.
Go to it.

Sick in the strongest of meanings...but yes. I'm with you on that.
My only visit to Boston was in early 1992. I found a really good seafood place by the docks and had some of the best filet of flounder ever.
You see, it’s OK for some people to be offended, but not others.
Some people are more equal than the rest of us.
Rainbow flags offend and bully the colorblind! Time to march!
Why doesn’t someone market a “straight” flag? Then we could push to have it flown too. It would be interesting to see if straight people were recognized am much and as often of the “alphabet” people. We could even try to get a day or week or month just for us!
For the ignorant.
William Weld, a Republican Governor, appointed Margaret Marshall, a South African, to the State Supreme Court, As the Chief Justice, she presided over the same sex "marriage" ruling Margaret Marshall
Opponents to gay marriage wanted a referendum vote by citizens put on the ballot, The Legislators voted against it 151 to 45 Legislator vote. The supporters claimed that 56 percent of the voters would approve of gay marriage, yet they were afraid to put it to a vote (because they know they lie).
With the Supreme Court and Legislators strongly against him, there is nothing Romney could do, unless you expected him to rule by decree writing executive orders. You know, like Obama.
For the stubborn and uninform...
