Iran Deploys Forces to Fight al Qaeda-Inspired Militants in Iraq

The threat of Sunni extremists eclipsing the power of its Shiite-dominated Arab ally presents Iran with the biggest security and strategic challenge it has faced since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

With the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, an offshoot of al Qaeda, rapidly gaining territory, Iran deployed Revolutionary Guards units to Iraq, according to Iranian security officials.

Iran has invested considerable financial, political and military resources over the past decade to ensure Iraq emerged from U.S. war as a strategic partner for the Islamic Republic and a strong Shiite-led state. The so-called Shiite crescent—stretching from Iran to Iraq, Lebanon and Syria—was forged largely as a result of this effort. […]

The involvement of Iran would pose yet another security challenge for the White House, and raises the prospect of the U.S. and Iran fighting on the same side. The U.S. opposes Iran’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but with Tehran is jointly supporting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. …

Never would have happened with Saddam in power.

The Iranians know they have a real fight on their hands.

Iraq: Arab countries equipment found in ISIL hideouts

The equipment belonged to the Peninsula Shield Force, the military side of the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC), which consists of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to his oldest daughter, he still is in power.

Iraq digs in for the Battle of Baghdad: A gripping dispatch from a city braced for bloody onslaught by ISIS jihadists

In posts in Arabic on her Facebook page, Miss Hussein appears to address her father, saying: ‘Your men and women have answered the country’s call, and they are coming to Baghdad.’

RE:”Maybe, maybe not. Iran was different back then too”

Invading, occupying and democratizing poor dysfunctional crapholes where they hate us was a bad idea,
sadly I believed Bush, Cheney, Rummy etc in the early 2000s.

I thought GHWB his daddy had a much better approach on this than GWB on this:

Bombs for oil rather than US Americans blood for muzzies who hate us.

That's not being in power.. That's being the insurgency against those in power.

Is the Tea party in power in Washington making all the bad decisions? Do we blame them?

This is not an insurgency. It is a coup.

When you put all three together, it was bad. You do not “democratize” anything either way, but you do defeat the enemy.

I’m reminded of Solzhenitsyn when he said this at Harvard:
Must one point out that from ancient times, a decline in courage has been considered the first symptom of the end?
We have had a growing decline of same since the end of WWII.

No, no, and hell no! Let all those Islamists kill each other without one more drop of blood, sweat, or tears from American military and their families. It will keep the Sunnis and Sheites busy. I'm not saying pull up the drawbridge as Ron Paul would like. I'm saying let them kill each other, but stand by.

Once Iran, Syria, Iraq, North Korea has the capability to strike America with nukes or WMD's, then nuke ALL those goat-humping crazy sh*ts back to their beloved 7th century or in the case of NK, to his Daddies grave.

I'm so tired of the West putting up with these savages. And as I've said in other threads here, KILL THEM ALL, and I don't care about collateral damage. Better their wives and kids than ours. I admire Truman for nuking Japan.

Many reading this don't understand how many 10's of thousands of American troops would have died if we had to invade Japan, not to mention many more thousands with injuries and maimed for life. And I'm not even including the Japanese resistance which would have been 10 times our casualties. The mainland and outlying islands were most comprised of old men, women, and children.

There's also the FACT that the Emperor was arming children to die for his "godsake".

Japan learned from Nagasaki and surrendered. Apparently Hiroshima was not enough. Point being, although many of these Jihadists don't wear uniforms, I say bomb some cities in the right places and maybe they will learn also. No singular drone strikes, I'm talking hitting their stupid rock in Mecca and killing them and their Hamas buds. Kill them all before they get nukes.

Give me the "football" for 20 minutes, and I would end this Islamist crap. Bet Russia and China would be relieved, not to mention impressed.

“All those Islamists” do not intend to “kill each other”. Once strong leadership reasserts itself over the region, their attention will be re-focused on the Great Satan.

Looks to me that this is gonna be a war where Obama is on both sides. The perfect position for him. On one side we have the Sunni’s and on the other side we have the Shiites. Heck, Obama could send US troops to both sides.

The GWB, McCain, Grahamnsety neocons created an imaginary claim blown up fast that invading, occupying and rebuilding Iraq would be for us like it was in Europe 1945.("They will welcome us as liberators")

But Iraq wasn't France. In France 1944 our soldiers really had the people welcoming them as liberators. France was great place to be for US soldiers at the end of WWII.

That was far different from all these different Muzzie sects who hate each other and us even more.

They certainly didn’t do things the same way as during WWII either.

I don’t recall reading or seeing that the Germans were happy to see US troops on their soil. Victors do not elicit positive reactions from the vanquished.

You may be correct, but let the Sunnis and Sheites kill each other before re-focusing on the West. Been going on for centuries. As someone here said, "maybe it's in their DNA", although I doubt that. However, with a few strategic placed nukes, most would be gone. The rest would go back to goat-humping. I would use my last 5 minutes to tell Saudi Arabia to lower their crude prices or we pull out ALL American technicians. If they don't comply, let the fires burn on their wells and docks like Saddam did to Kuwait. I feel NO mercy for these savages.

America no longer needs their oil and I would love to see them living back in tents. However, doesn't include UAE or Bahrain who are very pro western. Yes, I'm willing to pay a higher price for gasoline. So what? We frack more and keep our oil to ourselves and prices go down, providing the oil companies are forced to comply which is one Fedgov law I could live with! America first!

Pleeeze, the French and Belgians welcomed us as liberators and the Germans followed our orders.

You don't recall Patton putting Germans to work in Germany and trying to tell his superiors that he needs them to run the country, or the Germans wholesale slaughtering each other in civil war.

There is is no f.ing way that these poor muzzie crapholes equate to Germany and Germans.

Equating Iraqis with the French and Belgians is the flaw here; the Iraqis were not subjugated by anyone. And we didn’t have the rules of engagement that our present-day military is saddled with.

And we never Marshall-Planned Iraq either. Furthermore, consider how long US troops have been in Europe.
