Hastings became a vocal critic of the surveillance state during the investigation of reporters by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2013, referring to the restrictions on the freedom of the press by the Obama administration as a "war" on journalism.[5] His last story, "Why Democrats Love to Spy On Americans", was published by BuzzFeed on June 7.[6][7] Hastings died in a fiery high-speed automobile crash on June 18, 2013, in Los Angeles, California.[8]

Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire April 2004 in the same area of Afghanistan where Bergdahl deserted his unit in 2009. The Army tried to hush up the friendly fire incident that Tillman died in ... to the extent members of his unit were told not to talk to the media. This was too big a story to keep under wraps and the effort to hide the details of Tillman's death began to slowly emerge. The Army is playing the same game with Bowe Bergdahl, except once again the story has gone viral and efforts to spin it by the US Army are coming unraveled.

We are already in a police state. Don’t be surprised if those soldiers who are telling the truth aren’t arrested for disclosing secret information.
