This reads to me like friendly fire agit-prop.
If Carson is as smart and compassionate and principled and experienced and life-saving as his history suggests, then let's not "ruh roh" every little purity screed that someone decides to publish.
Let's be a little bit more reasoned and balanced in how we interpret the long run.

Friendly fire agit-prop or not, I do not consider one who publically espouses conditional ownership of a semi-automatic weapon based on locale some little purity screed, myself.
We have a document that affirms our right to ownership of firearms (and that includes semi-automatics) without infringement. Licensing requirements aside, banning them based solely on locale is infringement, and it is not a “purity screed.”
