Matt Bevin seemed like the ideal candidate to challenge Mitch McConnell. The handsome and personable businessman, a father of nine, impressed national conservative groups looking for a chance to knock off the Senate Republican leader.
These groups, from the Senate Conservatives Fund to FreedomWorks, the Tea Party Patriots and the Madison Project, invested more than $1 million in the Kentucky GOP primary. Bevin himself spent more than $3 million, including $1 million of his own fortune.
And, yet, polls indicate he’s going to get creamed Tuesday.

In KY, does the issue of what is happening to coal with Obama’s EPA come front and center?
How do the Dems there defend the Administrations obvious attempts to gut their industry?
However, if McConnell wins reelection, which I think he will, the above scenario will not happen. The other senators fear retribution if McConnell wins and so nothing changes.
It is always my preference if the republican wins because I would rather get 70% of something than nothing. However, there are many on this website that are so blinded by outrage, they lose all perspective and frankly, can't think strategically. I call these people, absolutists, because that is what they are. Unless, they get 100% of something, they pull their knives out and call them liberals. These are the same people that are just shocked that Tillis won the NC primary, even though there was a ton of evidence he would win for months.
They are their own worst enemy and don't know it. The conservatives need to take over the republican party, but it is not done overnight. It takes time and patience and these people have none. There is no foresight and they don't care.
Having written all that, one has to admit that Mitch has been waving a red flag, drawing all kinds of attention to him because of his war on conservatives. Occasionally, one needs to put a stop to it. If Mitch is abandoned in November by conservatives, then Mitch has only himself to blame and would let future leaders know they are being watched.
Personally, I think Mitch will win. It is a republican year and voters don't usually vote out a Majority Leader from their own state.
You are like the little kid who takes his ball home if you don't get your own way. You would rather burn the house down instead of improving it incrementally. Change in politics is slow and takes patience. It has taken four decades (yes, four) to get some traction so there could be some regulation to curb abortion. The only way to do that was to elect republicans in state legislatures. Patience.

Actually, I think that's the Republican platform, not that they actually follow it.
I'm not looking for a messiah. Just a conservative.
If a candidate meets those basic platform items, he'll get my vote, even if I think he's a ditz.
It's you absolutist moderates that categorically reject conservatism. Like the Chamber of Commerce types that said they would support Hillary if a conservative got the republican nomination.
Republican majorities haven't resulted in any more conservative governance. Doesn't matter how many liberal republicans you elect.

You are right on the money!!! Just about all of the conservative groups have thrown their support to McConnell in the general election, this evening. Matt Bevin has said there is no way he would ever vote for an Obama “Liberal” or Democrat low life!!! Obama and the Democrats must be totally destroyed politically, this coming November, 2014!!!
Not after the absolutist liberal ran his mouth about his war on conservatives, and his organizations spent millions to defeat conservatives.

Mitch McConnell is part of "This Town", so is Hillary Clinton. But it isn't only inhabited by politicians. David Gregory is a resident, so is Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell. It doesn't stop with media; Tom Daschle lives there with Trent Lott and Hailey Barbour.
"This Town" has created a place, a life and a culture all it's own and regardless of the brand they choose for sucking up all the power and money they can, they are all in it together and they all protect each other.
If you can't read the book, at least take the free look that's offered at the link.

I agree with you, you make some good points and are not as stubborn as I perceived. My apologies for calling you a malcontent since I don't think that is true now. I think both of us want the same thing, but perhaps going about it in different ways. There does come a time when one needs to draw a line and say no more. It's hard to know how close we are to the cliff, but we know we are getting closer and closer. For me, that line is immigration. That would be one betrayal too much for me.
I would hope that by now, they (politicians) understand that.
As for the Chamber of Commerce, I agree with you. The CC used to promote what was best for America, but that is no longer true. They promote what is best for their businesses/shareholders since companies are no longer part of their nation's culture - they all seem to be global citizens now, so businesses don't really care what happens in the US as much as they used to since they just move things around.
The republicans need to divorce themselves from the CC, but I don't see that happening. Your thoughts on the CC are completely correct.
In California, a few elections back, we had a Dem Governor who was not very good. Typical Dem bad.
He got in hot water and so lost a recall election to the Republican.
Unfortunately for California, the Republican was movie star tough guy Arnold S. Who though was a super tough, strong guy in the movies, as Governor was a real wimp and bent over for the Dems and out-Dem’ed the previous Dem Governor. Was more left on gun control, etc etc that the Dem.
So, no...vote the Conservative, not the RINO.
A RINO and a Dem are one and the same.
