China's 'Mobile National Territory': Chine does not miscalculate, she intends to start a war

China has built an offshore oil drilling rig, numbered HD-981, specifically for the purpose invalidating other nations’ claims to seabed they thought was theirs. There is no doubt about the purpose of the rig given that a Chinese state oil company official once called it “our mobile national territory.” Its primary purpose isn’t commercial. If China can drill an oil well on some other country’s seabed, they can then claim that it was China’s territory all along. The rig is having its first outing to that purpose off the coast of Vietnam, accompanied by 86 Chinese vessels including a submarine. Vietnam responded by sending 30 coastguard vessels to interfere with the Chinese drilling rig. Ramming of Vietnamese vessels by the Chinese ones has been reported.

Miscalculation might not lead to war because there is nothing miscalculated about what China is doing. China intends to start a war. Most probably China wants Vietnam to attack its drilling operation so that it can play the injured party and launch a retaliatory strike. Not so much against forces on the Vietnamese mainland but against the Vietnamese island bases further south in the Spratly Islands. Vietnam has a number of bases centred on Union Bank, with the main base being Sin Cowe Island. At least one of these looks like a medieval fortress with firing slots, suggesting that the Vietnamese expect it to take some shelling and an assault across the reef.

When you have a one child policy for decades and your people who prefer a son are killing their daughters (so they can have a son), you end up with a generation of way too many young men.

Of military age.

Use ‘em or lose ‘em.

The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.

Central to the Chinese calculations is the fact that America is in decline which they believe is permanent.

Countries go to war to distract citizens from problems at home. China’s housing bubble, much larger than ours ever was, has popped.

1956—England and France throw their weight around in the Suez, Eisenhower/the US tells them to back-off and they do.
We owned most of their debt.
This is similar but it will be Barry drawing another meaningless `red line,’ which of course is ignored. Then he laces up the ol’ golf shoes and heads out to the links `cause he’s done all he can, right?

Also that’s about the time the dollar became the world’s currency reserve, replacing the pound. So yeah, I think we’re in for some (what the Chinese call) `interesting times’ in the next few weeks/months.

If I am to believe a recent BBC documentary, “How China Fooled The World”, the Chinese are spending billions keeping people employed on “infrastructure” projects to build stuff like airports and highways that will never be used.

Xi Xi Xi Jinping
PLA is gonna win!

Hohohohohohohohoho

Yeah, I know it is bad for China to be waxing stronger and more aggresive but it’s still a bit delicious to see Hanoi getting it’s face rubbed in the dirt like this.

True, but humans have waged war over resources since the beginning of humans.
