Viets are quite formidable but it escapes me why they strike back by scaring away capital and investment that provides jobs in Vietnam. They weaken themselves economically by undermining confidence in the rule of law.

Several decades ago, VN implemented what it termed “doi moi,” a new way of doing business. In practical terms that meant limited amounts of capitalism were permitted but only tolerated. Communism remains the ideology of the State so all entrepreneurs are always subject to arbitrary actions by the State or its representatives.
In larger corporations, the board of directors must include at least one party member and, by VN law, all actions of the board must be unanimous - get the picture?
Yeah it doesn’t make sense but then communism doesn’t make sense either even though Democrats in the U.S. have never learned that lesson.
