Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested that he would like Congress to pass amnesty legislation during the lame-duck session of Congress, but he also said that immigration reform could get done "early next year."
President Barack Obama said that there were only "two to three months" left to pass amnesty legislation this year, but the CEOs of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers said this week that they hoped amnesty legislation could be the "final act" of the lame-duck session. Rove has courted pro-amnesty business executives for donations to his political action groups.
"The Speaker wants to get this thing done, but he wants to get it done in a way that unites the country," Rove said on Hugh Hewitt's radio show on Friday. "So my suspicion is weve got a better chance of getting comprehensive immigration reform done in the aftermath of the election or early next year." In fact, Rove expressed a preference "to get it done in the aftermath of the election."
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other GOP leaders declared on Wednesday that Senate Republicans would "absolutely" try to pass amnesty legislation if Republicans win back control of the upper chamber next year.
Rove, while a White House adviser for President George W. Bush, helped Bush push for comprehensive immigration reform--a failed attempt that saw the conservative base revolt.
Rove stated that Obama "did not do himself or the cause of immigration reform any good by allowing" his confidant and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to go to Las Vegas on Thursday and say that the White House had a "commitment" from House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to act on amnesty legislation. Boehner's office denied that such a commitment was made, and Jarrett walked back her remarks on Twitter Friday.

Pass it as far away from an election as possible.
The people be damned! That's their attitude.
Bush called him Turd Blossom. George should have followed that thought.
how many people wish that rove would be the latest example of spontaneous human combustion ?
Rove you are part of the problem.
GOP get with it. Bring back jobs to America.
STOP TALKING about immigration.
We need jobs. Not immigrants.
GFY
Fat limp d I ck bass tu hd
Even Karl Rove can't possibly be that stupid, can be? There is NO WAY to get amnesty 'done' in a way that will unite the country.
WTF? Rove is upset that Jarrett spilled the beans? But Rove is spilling the beans himself!
The precedent for lameduck action is the 1994 Mexican bailout. After the Repub sweep in the 1994 elections, Newtie conspired to get the lameduck Congress to pass the bailout, which was overwhelmingly opposed by grassroots conservatives. That showed where Newt's loyalties lay, as this does for Karl Rove. But it was a surprise coming from Newt in '94.
I’m quite sure their concern about jobs is on the other side of pay ledger.
I can only hope for the worst to happen to that waste of flesh and hope it happens by an illegal alien.
Not only that. Remember that they got GATT (general agreement on tariffs and trade) through in that same lame duck session, while the democrats still had control, and with Gingrich and Bastard Dole’s help.
THEY DON’T LIKE ELECTIONS. THEY DON’T LIKE THE PEOPLE GETTING IN THE WAY OF THEIR SCHEMES.
Is this Rove the same Rove formerly known as “Rove You Magnificent Bastard”

Uniting the country is the opposite of what the elites want. They want the US, and particularly its middle class, to be as weak as possible.
That way they can run amok with few consequences.
Kind of like lords and kings in the middle ages. Which is what they think of themselves.
That is the problem today.
Our entire system, is built on selling out American workers.
America became the greatest country in the entire world, and amassed the foremost industry as a result.
In just one generation, a relatively small group of “owners” has sold out America.
To China.
China is a massive communist nation, which doesn’t even grant to us, full ownership.
This is f’ed up.
America needs to turn around, and bring back American industry right now.
We need to produce things.
Right here in America.
Stop selling out our very own nation.
Yes! Good point! I get that stuff mixed up 20 years down the road. Now that you mention GATT, it makes me unsure about the Mexican bailout. But I think it was in the lameduck session.
Maybe those 200+ murderers the INS released to the public can all move into Karl Rove’s house, see how much he enjoys it..and they are NOT “Immigrants” I hate that term “Illegal Immigrants” they are CRIMINALS..calling them immigrants is an insult to those who immigrated to this country LEGALLY
All part of the large global agenda.
I’m with you, but when the CEO’s want 5 vacation homes because 2 just won’t do (because that’s Capitalism dammit!), this is what you get. And in an era when your political voice is in direct proportion to your bank account, good luck changing that.
Doesn’t matter. It was around the same time by the same people. It’s all part of the New World Order crap, a world without borders, one currency, all under the happy UN. We’ve shifted jobs and trillions of dollars to worthless hell holes, to international bureaucrats and dictators in thousand dollar suits.
It’s the same old game, the people against the aristocrats.
Karl, you are officially now tedious.
Who cares what you prefer?
Go away, already!
Well what is happening right now, is the GOP is selling off their own voters. So are the democrats, but I do not want them to solve this.
America needs jobs.
God help us all, if democrats beat the GOP to this realization.
I’m just saying, bring back jobs to America. Our government probably needs to somehow change our system in some way, to equalize the contest.
But America is hurting.
We are 17.5 trillion in debt, that debt is (rapidly) increasing, and we ran a trade surplus with China last year of over 300 billion. That has been growing every year.
I’ll just repeat.
Whichever party figures out the America needs jobs first, will win.
I do not want democrats to be that party.
GOP stop selling out your very own nation.
