Mary was my sister, the lady who introduced me to the sailing lifestyle in the Caribbean in the early 1970s. She was very adventurous, for example, becoming an accomplished SCUBA diver in her twenties during the 1960s, when very few women took up the new and “macho” sport.

We all loved her dearly, but are happy to know that she is in a better place now. I was fortunate to have had the chance during her final wek to thank her for setting me upon my life-long course of ocean sailing.

Now I’m back in the islands at anchor, with a very shaky connection, but I felt the need to say something about her, and the deep impact she has had on my life from sailing aboard her 33-foot sloop Maica in 1973, until the present time.

My heartfelt condolences. I do believe I met her at a Walter Reed Freep...

If she spent time with that group, that is a testament to her character.

Oh Travis :( I'm so sorry for your loss, and FR's loss, but what an outstanding legacy she handed to you over the years !

Those memories, and your gratitude for them, are a bequest that time can never depreciate; as long as they live, she lives.

May you and yours find comfort in that in the sad days ahead.
