90%, if not more, of the local cops will happily assist the feds when it comes time to take the guns. If nothing else, the feds will need them to shoot the dogs.

Indeed. The fed cops do not want to have their jobs interchangeable with better cops or citizens who know guns. Job security is what they want to secure, even if it means bringing in Mexican cartels and muslim militias for their protection.
