I don’t blame the IRS! Anyone who thinks they’re “taxed enough” has got to be an antisocial(ist) nutter, who doesn’t want to do his fair share for society. Wouldn’t put it past them to try chisling the government out of its hard earned income; should audit all those tea drinking partiers! /sar

Just a headline like this, regardless of sample composition, will choke off unknown numbers of contributions, many of them small. When the citizenry fear the government you have tyranny to quote someone and generalized fear will suppress opposition, petitions for redress, letters to Congress, etc. It is an invisible hand that aids a totalitarian government and ruling oligarchy.

My 2010 filing was audited in 2013. Went round and round over the 529 details, receipts, etc. After 4 additional filings of the same information, (and a few hundred more dollars for the accountant) I provided to begin with, they sent me a $49 check with no explanation.

Lesson learned today gang, make sure when the IRS asked for a list from you, to make sure your enemies are on that list.

Thankfully 90 percent weren’t. I wonder if they found any of the groups owing money or anything.

True, 10% seems like a lot, but someone needs to figure out what the rate would be for the this demographic of income earners without respect to political affiliation. It’s possible that these donors are in such a tax bracket as to make them subject to a higher than average audit rate.

Republicans argue that the Internal Revenue Service still hasn’t come clean about the full extent of its targeting, which swept up dozens of conservative groups.

Ten percent of Tea Party donors were audited and the butt kissers at the New York Times don't think it's a big story?

Hey Jill Abramson - how would you feel if 10% of your company was audited by the IRS... at the command of a conservative administration?

I was audited for the first time in my life, over a non-issue. It has cost me $5K so far to defend against the IRS, when they’ve lost an identical case in tax court.

And the republicans are happy as a pig in crap.

We’ll never get rid of the elites by running 7 people against an incumbent. It makes me wonder how many of those “tea party” candidates were plants. Bottom line, they should all get together, pick one and support that one whole heartedly.

As for me, the republicans will never get another vote from me.

Isn’t it interesting how the people who donate to Conservative candidates get audited, and those who donate to Liberal candidates pay little to no tax, get government contracts, and have their interests represented effectively by their public official?

Please note that this action is against "Tea Party" contributors, and ... Given the way the Rupublican elite has treated Sarah Palin, I'd say that many existing congressional Republicans are essentially FOR persectuion of Tea Party suppporters.

So, I'd also say ... "Bring it on, baby."
