When most Americans turn on their televisions at night, they expect their meteorologists to get the forecast right, or at least try.
That level of trust is one reason President Obama and his staff spent hours Tuesday giving top weather forecasters the royal treatment a briefing in the Roosevelt Room with multiple Cabinet secretaries and senior officials on a major new report on climate change, plus Rose Garden interviews with the president.
It was the White Houses latest attempt to penetrate a polarized media climate where Americans increasingly read and view consciously and unconsciously material that matches their political beliefs. Not only do cable news networks and editorial pages offer markedly different takes on the news, but Americans also are increasingly guided toward like-minded material through the algorithms of online searches and social media.
With presidential communication, it can either preach to the choir or convert the flock, said Matthew Baum, a professor of global communications at Harvard. The technological and media changes basically mean itll be easier than ever before to preach to the choir and get harder and harder to convert the flock.

One of the biggest challenges for the White House and other political leaders in the future will be grappling with algorithms on search engines and social networks that use a persons online history and habits to shape results.
What all these things are doing is narrowing the range of options that youre going to be exposed to, said Baum, the Harvard professor.

And so they are trying to use this to manipulate the information people are exposed to when they try to research a particular subject.
I don’t mind hearing news that challenges my beliefs, but it has to be fact-based. Once they get into the “bad YouTube review” explanation of Americans being murdered in Libya, I lose all trust in all their reporting. As for Global Warming, since the “cure” is exactly the same as the cure for the Impending Ice Age from the 1970s, I’m more than a little skeptical.
” his staff spent hours Tuesday giving top weather forecasters the royal treatment”
I bet they did not have to spend much time on the people fro TWC because these people have been in the boy kings corner for some time now.
Watched ABC NEWS last night. I liked their new weather forecaster, Ginger Zee, but watching her made it obvious she’s on the Global Warming ship. Oh well. She lost a lot of credibility in my eyes.
Al Roker scored a one on one with the “WON”.
Roker scored a one on one with the WON.
Al said that the certainty of doom claimant meeting with the imperios won included ... wait for it...change to the “actual” weather.????
Did Al Roker bring a change of shorts?
We’ve got a local weather channel that doesn’t do a lot of fluff.
This is so far off the mark, it has to be straight up propaganda because nobody could believe it to write it. The easiest way for the President to reach out would be a straight up press conference where he actually answered the questions. On Benghazi: where were you during the attack? on immigration: which laws do ordinary citizens get to break? On global warming : which of the models that all seem to be failing do you still trust?
Obama wants the Globull Warming Hoax mongers at The Weather Channel to be the only weather news in Amerika, no doubt. We prefer local weather casts that aren’t mixed with a generous helping of alarmist propaganda, so he’s gotta fix that.
This is the (com)Post trying to glaze a turd. The meeting was nothing more tham the White House’s attempt to convert the weatherman into a Weatherman. And you don’t need one to tell you how much that blows.
Even local TV weathermen are suspect nowadays, especially when it appears they seem to predict it will rain the day after the weekly watering day in watering restricted areas, so people will be tempted not to water.
And when they start hyping GW propaganda, they'll be as useless as the local news reporterettes (M or F) already are. Even in non-political stories they don't even bother with trying to report the who, what, where, when, why, and how. It's only about how interviewees feel.
Just like taking a degree at Harvard.
A pity really, as I used to appreciate their severe weather coverage.
Yeah when Al Porker, that black pile of liberal globull excrement, came onto the TWC scene is when I went click and never when back.
I cannot stand that POS
