“...like almost every other black person in America” he continued.
At least he admits it — and doesn’t behind the phony sophistry of “racists are only those who are in power” nonsense.
I didn't realized the Klan stooped that low.
Well, alrighty then Mr. Jordan. Your team is discriminating and the league is discriminating. It's not at all representative of America.
I don’t know, but Jordan is it just me or has Jordan really lost it? Came out of retirement and made a bad joke out of the Washington Wizards, would have been smarter to just stick to coaching them. If he could just relax, he might actually have a chance of being a little better remembered.
But he doesn’t mention the racism against Whitey McCracker-Honkey within the black community
He doesn’t appear to be suffering too bad.
Will there be racist audio tapes of Michael Jordan, NBA owner?
Interesting. Aren’t we fortunate that MJ wasn’t banned from the NBA due to his (previously) racist views? I wager Donald Sterling will not get a similar pass.
“Jordan said the Ku Klux Klan was dominant in North Carolina where he grew up in the mid-1970s, buying uniforms for sports teams and bibles for schools.”
This statement is untruthful. I grew up in the same part of NC as Jordan in the 1960’s and 1970’s. I never saw any evidence of Klan activity in the area and I certainly never saw a Klan purchased sports uniform or Bible. Jordan’s statement is like Bill Clinton claiming to have seen black churches burning in Arkansas when he was growing up. It makes for good newspaper copy but has no basis in fact.
The legacy of slavery and Jim Crow in the South is abominable. Equally abhorrent is the continuing portrayal of southern whites today, and in the recent past, as being nothing but racist suppressors of minorities. There were a few bad incidents during the era of desegregation (1950’s and 1960’s) but the vast majority of southern whites supported integration and worked hard to build a society of racial harmony. Today in the south, white on black violence is extremely rare. Black on white violence much more common.
Hint: Michael Jordan still IS a racist.
