Mile for mile, there are almost as many earthquakes rattling Oklahoma as California this year. This major increase in seismic shaking led to a rare earthquake warning today (May 5) from the U.S. Geological Survey and the Oklahoma Geological Survey.

In a joint statement, the agencies said the risk of a damaging earthquake — one larger than magnitude 5.0 — has significantly increased in central Oklahoma.

Good thing I just bought earthquake insurance last week. Over 40 years on OK, and that is one thing I can truly say I never thought I would need.

Yeah...might happen.

Might not....

I'd rather live here than SoCal though.

Prayers for a bunch of smaller quakes to release the pressure in the area...may be nerve-whacking-but little to no damage or anything else.

I hope you don’t find you have a 30 day wait on that coverage addition.

North a bit but we do have earthquake insurance since we have a three story chimney. I met a man this weekend from California. He said that they do not have private earthquake insurance any longer. It’s all controlled by the state and there is a $20K deductible.

Any fracking going on out there?

Anti-fracking activists here are now trying to shut it down with claims it is causing increased earthquake activity in Ohio.

Yeah....good choice.

Oklahoma in parts is pure rock, so much so one can’t even put a storm shelter in without some major excavation.

The Earth is cooling due to lower solar output.

The cooling will cause the Earth’s crust to shrink slightly causing increased earthquakes and volcanoes.

The volcanic ash in the atmosphere will cause more cooling.

Canada will be completely covered in ice within 20 years.

Your prayers are being answered.

OK has experienced almost daily earthquakes in the 2.5.....3.5 region for the past couple of weeks.

I have been told it sucks to have swarm of “lighter” quakes at all, hope the swarm ends soon enough and ends the threat of an lager damaging one that no one wants...

It’s more than 20k, it’s like 10% of the value of the home, and there are lots of exclusions. We are in Cali also and don’t have it.

I agreed with this thought for awhile now and in ways still do. HOwever, the problem is the whole fold and tucks(weaknesses)through out Okie land is unzipping. So if a major quake were to occur it most certainly would be away from the main swarm.
