38 people die after radicals set Trade Unions House on fire in Ukraine's Odessa

At least 38 anti-government activists died in fire at Odessa’s Trade Unions House after suffocating with smoke or jumping out of windows of the burning building, Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported. The building was set ablaze by the pro-Kiev radicals.

Some 50 people, including 10 police officers, were also injured in the incident, the official statement said. It was not immediately clear whether those injured in Friday street clashes in Odessa were included in those numbers.

According to the ministry, the Friday standoff on Odessa included “anti-Maidan” activists on one side and “football fans” from Odessa and Kharkov, as well as "euro-Maidan" activists, on the other. A criminal case on the charges of mass unrest has been opened.

The Trade Unions House was set on fire by pro-Kiev radicals after they surrounded and destroyed the tent camp of anti-government activists that stood in front of the building on Odessa’s Kulikovo Field Square. It was torched in a storming attempt after some of the anti-Maidan activists rallying in the square barricaded themselves inside the building.

Thirty of the victims were found on the floors of the building having apparently suffocated to death with smoke. Eight more died after jumping out of the burning Trade Union House’s windows, according to police.

Earlier reports of the clashes in Odessa said that both sides used Molotov cocktails and, allegedly, gunfire.

A live video stream from inside the building showed disturbing scenes of supposedly dead bodies lying around the rooms with thick smoke in the air and blood stains on the floor.

Most of the bodies filmed had St. George ribbons attached to their clothes, distinguishing the victims as pro-Russian or anti-Kiev activists.

The person filming said he counted up to 25 dead bodies on the upper floors alone.

I notice someone forgot to change, “anti-Maidan activists" to "Russian Special Forces", I'm sure that will be corrected in the official Kiev "government" description of events.

Not too many days ago someone was saying that "real Ukrainians" all liked the Maidan "government" which is why there were no problems in cities like Odessa. I am happy to know killing several dozen protestors is no longer a problem in the eyes of those who who ripped their garments and threw ashes on their heads over a half dozen of their own.

The Banderists are needed by Obama-McCain-Nuland-Kerry-Soros to do their dirty work in Kiev. Voters are moving towards Tymoshenko in the upcoming election and McCain’s Svoboda and Right Sector friends are starting to panic.

Lots of Twitter chatter that an Emergency Meeting has been called at the Kremlin.

Russian language tweets calling it “The Odessa Massacre”.

Reichstag Fire Moment—this will give Putin the excuse for war. The first of many bloody encounters—war by Midnight. Watch Putin Address the Nation, and the Russian Airforce bombing troop concentrations and cutting gas—closing the borders. Then the T-90s roll. Where they stop is anyone’s guess—Kiev? Warsaw? The Rhine?

It was the Banderists that torched the building and prevented rescuers from entering the building. Why are you mad at RT for reporting who torched the building?

So the building didn't burn, the pictures are all fakes?

People didn't die?

The official Kiev "government" press release will only differ in having BS about how much those who are dead deserved their fate and so on.

Your problem isn't with the source, it's with the facts coming out without massaging in Kiev first. If RT is wrong, there will be plenty of evidence, real evidence not garbage from the Kiev "government", to prove them wrong.

RT was a Hell of a lot more accurate about several massacres of Christians in Syria than anyone in the US media has been and so far I haven't seen them caught in an outright lie about the Ukraine. Hyperbole and slanting, yes, outright lies? Not to date and that includes their being the first to report that the Brave Parachute Brigade Troops who "flew a separatist flag only to avoid bloodshed" had actually defected to the separatists. They reported the defection two full days before Kiev admitted the truth then dis-banned the Brave Parachute Brigade.

Why is reporting what the rags that supported the Kiev coup any different than reporting what RT has to say? Everyone knows they'll both have a slant and grownups can decide for themselves what to believe instead of having a representative of the Kiev Coup Ministry of Truth demanding alternatives to their point of view be censored.

I don't see the Maiden crowd encouraging Western reporters to do anything other than sit in Kiev and repeat "government" press releases. It's not like there are a dozen unbiased outlets reporting from Ukraine so until there are, I'll take the propaganda from Russia right along with the propaganda from the Kiev Kiddies, thank you, and I don't need your help or anyone elses to decide just how much of each is lies sprinkled in with real information.

Have a nice day Herr Dolt

The thing is: according to independent sources, shortly before the fire the separatist were throwing molotov cocktails from the building onto the pro-Ukrainian crowd outside.

Assigning blame without trying to find the truth or taking into account what actually happened in Odessa, is the mark of propaganda. RT is a Russian propaganda tool and this is their version of the Reichstag fire.

And it's shameful to see how many FReepers just repeat KGB-written press releases without trying to get the real picture.

If Ukrainians wanted it, that building still would be on fire, with Russians in it.

Change the channel, RT is Russian garbage

Have a look at the following version of the story then, where pro-Ukraine Odessa and Kharkiv soccer fans were said to have first been attacked by Russian separatists and later set fire to the building.

"Have a nice day Herr Dolt"

It's true that many of us Americans are of German descent. Those of us of several hundred years of American descent also have many other heritages (Norwegian, English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, French, Dutch, American Indian, etc.). Several more recent Russian immigrants have referred to me and Americans like me as "Heinz 57" or "mongrels."

I had great uncles who went back to Germany during the depression and fought in the Wehrmacht in WWII while their brothers were in the US Army, Navy, and AF. Nine boys in the family and five of them died fighting for Germany, one in the 8th AF.

I don't need a lecture on when heritage plays a role in things nor do I need anyone to tell me when someone saluting and going with the tribe rather than thinking merits a “Herr” in front of their name for being so wonderfully 1930s style mindless.

That’s how it’s reported in Ukraine. The Russians separatists messed with the wrong people.

The soccer fans have been involved in this thing from the start. There’s a great Putin song that is tearing up the music charts, which started at the soccer stadium.. I might post it post it tomorrow

Broken clock comes to mind. If Obama called Hitler a Nazi or if Carter called the North Korean regime insane, I wouldn't contradict them, either. And you should keep in mind that - other than RT - I myself didn't assign any blame.

RT is a propaganda tool on a mission to spread disinformation and do Moscow's bidding. And it is necessary to point that out. There is nothing wrong with trying to find the truth and discussing alternative viewpoints. There is something wrong if Americans bend over backwards to spread the KGB's message.
