Lockerbie bombing ‘was work of Iran, not Libya’ says former spy

The Lockerbie bombing was ordered by Iran and carried out by a Syrian-based terrorist group, a former Iranian intelligence officer has admitted.

Abolghassem Mesbahi, a defector to Germany, said Pan Am flight 103 was downed in 1988 in retaliation for a US Navy strike on an Iranian commercial jet six months earlier, in which 290 people died.

He claims the Ayatollah Khomeini, who was Iran’s Supreme Leader, ordered the bombing “to copy exactly what happened to the Iranian Airbus”. …

He was a dictator and a thug, but he was our dictator and our thug. At least he kept things under control over there, until we destabilized him. Slaughtering islamists is no crime.

We didn’t even do that right.

Still amazes me that Iran is always “hands off” as far as DC is concerned.

After a period, the truth usually comes out.

Twenty-eight years for Pan Am 103, fifty and counting on the Kennedy assassination, just fifteen with the downing of TWA 800. That one may get resolved before all he!! breaks loose in the next and final ME conflict, although I have my doubts.

Col. "Bo" Gritz, no flaming liberal he, had it pegged within days of the bombing as Iran's doing, in retaliation for the accidental shoot-down of an Iranian civil aviation Airbus by our Navy six months earlier. But then nobody would take seriously a "conspiracy theorist."

CORRECTION: That would be 18 years this coming July for TWA flight 800. (memory lapse)

I thought the same thing: tit-for tat.

Add-up Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and has undermined Turkey, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Quite a ‘resume enhancement’ in just 5 years.

The case against Iran/Syria and PFLP-GC seemed pretty clear just months after the Lockerbie disaster, but then the first Gulf war followed by the Madrid conference and Syria and the palis were politically off-limits....

What difference, at this point, does it make?

(This is why you just blow up all your enemies - certainty.)

From this article (Lockerbie Doubts ):

The direction of the case shifted dramatically in the fall of 1990 as President George H.W. Bush was scrambling to assemble a coalition to drive Iraqi troops out of Kuwait. The Bush administration was in need of Iranian and Syrian help, too, in freeing U.S. hostages then held by Islamic militant groups in Lebanon.

And a most pertinent and valuable conclusion:

How did we get so far off track on this story? In part, by not having a truly independent media to investigate and report on the truth behind this case.
