A shocking poll released Tuesday shows overwhelming majorities of people in Virginia, New York and New Jersey support a national gun registry.

The survey released Tuesday was done jointly by Roanoke College in Virginia, Rutgers-Eagleton in New Jersey and Siena College in New York. It shows that 68 percent of New York voters and a whopping 74 percent of New Jersey voters are in favor of establishing a national gun registry.

Then let them register their [non-existent] guns and leave the rest of us ALONE!

Do they mean a firearms registry, or a ‘gun’ registry?

In principle such a thing should never exist, but then again the guns of good owners seem to at times find their way illegally to others who should never get guns.

How do we fix both issues to the satisfaction of all.

We had moms out there taking their mental kids to shooting ranges then having those kids take the guns, kill their moms and then kill a group of other kids.
We also don’t want the government busting our doors down for legally owned weapons.

We have a tough problem to deal with IMO.

Getting their way in their own states isn't enough? VA is the odd man out on this one but they are being infected by the DC disease.

Well, a huge majority in the rest of the country is in favor of the citizens of New York, Virginia, and New Jersey minding their own damn business.

74% of people in New Jersey being idiots does not surprise me and with 45 Billion in intelligent people and wealth in NY having left, over 60% of idiots left should not surprise anyone.

Not long ago, these people would have form tribes and been slaughter by other tribes and made slaves - but idiots can survive today because other Americans would, will and have protected them.

The concept of “survival of the fitness” no longer extends to humans.

We water and protect the weeds.

No chance for a biased poll from those "Big Education" sources...

Guns are not the problem. Look at what happened in China: 28 people killed, 113 people wounded in a knife attack. The solution is to focus on criminals and the insane.

Lies. Nothing between the parties has a 74% support rate on either side.

And the nominal is %42 to %42 with 16% undecided/don’t care.

Anything out of the norm is certainly a “push-poll” or simply made up.

"We have a tough problem to deal with IMO."

Not if you start with the presumption that the Founders were right, and we have a G-d given right to self defense against government with our firearms.

Then, problems are not "tough". The problems are perhaps intractable. But only if you assume you are going to overturn the clear constitutional meaning do things become "tough."

“Sensible” gun law demands over the years...

And to think, in 1962 Thomas J Dodd and Emaual Cellar proposed the first federal law on common firearms.

1962; “We don’t want to take away your guns, we ONLY want to register handguns! Rifles and shotguns will not be affected”.

1964: “We only want to register all your guns, not ban them! Only Army surplus guns will be banned.”

1968: “We only want to register your guns, and ban “Saturday Night Specials” and small foreign handguns along with army surplus rifles!” (They got the ban on 5 shot army surplus rifles and handguns and small foreign pistols)

1970: “We only want to ban Saturday night specials! Large handguns and rifles will not be affected!”

1976: “We only want to ban all handguns! Long guns will not be affected!”

1981: “The NRA is a rifle organization! They should give up their handguns, and they can keep their rifles!”- Lee Grant on GMA

1984: “We must ban “assault Rifles, unsuitable or hunting!”

1989: George Bush bans import of some foreign made “assault rifles”.

1992: Assault rifle ban passed by Clinton.

2000: first calls to ban single shot .50 cal rifles...

Nelson T. ‘Pete’ Shields
Founder of Handgun Control, Inc.

“I’m convinced that we have to have federal legislation to build on. We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest.

Of course, it’s true that politicians will then go home and say, ‘This is a great law. The problem is solved.’ And it’s also true that such statements will tend to defuse the gun-control issue for a time.

So then we’ll have to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen that law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time.

My estimate is from seven to ten years. The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country. The second problem is to get them all registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition — except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors — totally illegal.”

-Pete Shields, Chairman and founder, Handgun Control Inc., “A Reporter At Large: Handguns,” The New Yorker, July 26, 1976, 57-58

The Brady Center (former HCI) now has the hots to ban anything they can, including common rifles and shotguns.
