Dangerous Old Men

Everybody knows a Walt Kowalski.  He is the grizzled Korean War veteran Clint Eastwood played in the movie Gran Torino.  A man who spends his days sitting on the porch, keeping his house and yard immaculate, satisfied to drink his cheap beer while watching his neighborhood and country go to hell around him.  He is an anachronism, a dinosaur -- part of the old America where you worked hard, took pride in your work and where you lived, and fought for your country and what it stood for when called upon.  Armed with his M1 Garand rifle and 1911 .45 pistol he brought back from the war, he put new meaning in "Get off my lawn."

.... SNIP ....

Fewer have heard of Ben Mitchell, who features in the book  Enemies Foreign and Domestic

.... SNIP ....

Both of these men are fictional characters, but is it just fantasy?  Let us look back at Samuel Whittemore.  Samuel was an old man -- seventy-eight years old, to be exact -- on April 19, 1775.  After many years of service bearing arms for the British Crown, surely he was too old to fight, and his wife even told him so.  On that fateful morning, though, he gathered up his musket, two pistols, and a cavalry saber that he acquired from a French officer who "died suddenly" and took his place to meet the British Regulars in Menotomy.  When it was over, the British thought they were fired upon by a whole company and sent the same to subdue him.  After dispatching some British Regulars by emptying his musket and pistols and drawing his sword, he had half his face shot off and was bayoneted thirteen times and left for dead.  Samuel did indeed die -- ten years later.

Speaking of angry old men. Paul Ryan and the Republican party just stirred up a bunch of us angry old veterans.

Veterans have known for decades that Democrats in Congress didn’t represent us, but when Republicans passed Paul Ryan’s Budget cutting military retirement benefits, we learned that veterans now aren’t represented by either political party.

At present, our country’s veterans have no representation in Congress and it makes us wonder how this came about. Was it something we did or failed to do that caused us to lose representation? How could it be that illegal aliens, homosexuals, and homosexual pedophiles are well represented in Congress, but our country’s veterans who gave the best years of their lives in the service of their country are not represented by either of our political parties?

Veterans are now organizing throughout this country and will make our presence known in the coming Republican Primaries and in November when we will do all we can to defeat every incumbent Republican Congressman.

Paul Ryan, John Boehner and the Republican Party attacked the Veteran community and we intend to respond accordingly.

The thing about dangerous old men is that their numbers keep growing as the politicians continue to destroy our country. How much longer are we going to wait before we do something about it?

The funny thing about GranTorino is my dad had a G. Torino before he traded it in for a Thunderbird when he was 80, after my adult children saw Gran Torino they all said the same think.....Hey, thats grandpa.....My dad didn’t move out of Detroit until he was pass 80. He and his long time next door neighbor (who had a dog that scared the crap out of me)were the only whites in the whole area. When someone knocked on his door, he answered with a gun in his hand..One guy saw his gun, jumped down the steps from the porch and yelled.....WRONG HOUSE....lol
