With Congress opposed to even the most modest efforts at gun control, activists are pressing a sympathetic White House to make gun ownership a public health and safety issue, and they're lobbying the Obama administration to pour money into public information campaigns and gun research.
Some groups contacted did not want to discuss details of their lobbying strategy.
“As you might imagine, those are conversations that we aren't ready to speak to the media about,” said Erika Soto Lamb, spokeswoman for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group formed and funded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
But others, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they are hoping the president will direct the Department of Health and Human Services to launch a public safety campaign about the dangers of gun ownership, much like the agency did about the dangers of smoking. Gun control advocates are also pressing President Obama to spend more money on research about guns and gun ownership.
In last week’s State of the Union message, in his only reference to guns, Obama said, “I intend to keep trying, with or without Congress, to help stop more tragedies from visiting innocent Americans in our movie theaters, shopping malls, or schools like Sandy Hook.”

Then write up one of those EOs you're so fond of decreeing that "gun free zones" are no more. Seriously, look at the mass-shooting events of the last 30 years. What do they have in common? They all took place in allegedly (but obviously not) "gun free" zones. How many more deaths, how many more families need to be destroyed before WE WAKE THE {EXPLETIVE} UP! Gun free zones are simply "defenseless victim zones." Lawmakers need to stop aiding and abetting mass murderers.
If the President has the power to outlaw coal surely he has the power to outlaw anything.

This is why Americans need to remove every RINO from office all the way to dog catcher. Real conservative Americans will force feed these communist and their anti-gun stunts by simply defunding Zerocare and any other mechanism used by the communist to subdue and eliminate the American culture and constitutional protections! This would include enforcement of the current immigration laws that seem to simply be in the way of the “open borders” communist!

The elites don't want suburban, rural, middle-class and blue-collar whites to have guns. That's why the elites only talk about gun control when tragedies affect these groups. When it affects the inner-cities, crickets.
DING DING DING. Now that Obamacare is law of the land all things can be regulated and banned for the sake of public health and saving money.
Correct about the lack of confiscation of firearms for gangs. The authorities know the general locations, and even specific addresses where firearms (owned illegally) will be found. I believe the LAPD, for example, has specific info. They don’t go there, out of cowardice and political protection of constituents.
