John Cornyn and many other Republican incumbents face significant primary challenges. They may have gotten away with symbolic conservatism for years, but today voters are looking for positive change in he Republican Party and for a more authentic and consistent conservatism, as exemplified by Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz in the Senate.
It is not that John Cornyn is not conservative. He is just not the right kind of conservative for the post-Bush Republican Party.
There was a time when it was enough to be pro-life and pro-gun. That standard has fallen by the wayside for something much closer to the vision of conservatism held by Edmund Burke, the father of Conservatism, or Barry Goldwater, Mr. Conservative.
John Cornyn may be conservative by the George W. Bush standard, but Judged by the Burke-Goldwater standard or even by comparison to Ronald Reagan, Cornyns conservatism fails in three vital areas.
Republican voters are now expecting real fiscal conservatism. They want to see budgets cut, entitlements reformed and the financial burden of government on the people substantially reduced. The past standard of just reducing the rate of government growth while growing the GDP wont save us from the fiscal disaster which many see looming. They are demanding more.
Republican voters value civil liberties. They think that their party should be different from the Democrats and stand up for the rights of citizens to privacy, free speech and free association. They want government off the backs of the people as well as out of their pocketbooks. They still oppose abortion and support guns, but every Republican candidate passes that test. They want more substance.
Republican voters want party reform.

We need a better leader for Texas.
Forget that. How come Cornyn hasn’t been expelled by the GOP? He deliberately tanked the Senate in 2010, so republicans wouldn’t win. He funneled money to 3 candidates who left the GOP. He is a fifth columnist.
His ads claim all of Ted Cruz’ accomplishments! It’s disgusting!
Who is running against Cornholio?
Cornyn’s opponents:
Dwayne Stovall
Chris Mapp
Steve Stockman
Linda Vega
Reid Reasor
Curt Cleaver
Ken Cope
Among other groups, Cornyn is endorsed by Dr. Steve Hotzie who is head of “Conservative Republicans of Texas” located in Houston which seems to have a whole lot of money. Cornyn has been socking away money for several years now and has a huge warchest.
Our family is voting for Stovall in the primary. Early voting starts on February 18. Cornyn’s ads are pretty nasty. He lost his cover when Kay Bailey retired and was replaced by Cruz. Let’s pray we can take him down this time around. He is #2 on the “R” side of the Senate and will not go quietly in the night.
Hope is that the vote can be split so that Cornyn doesn’t get at least 50% and he is either forced into a runoff or he doesn’t finish in the top tier the first time around.
So Stovall is best bet to unseat him? Or Stockman?
Well, Stockman’s taking all the flak from Cornyn, so he must be over the target the most.
I’ll call the head of the Dallas RJC today and see if he can get a Stovall or Stockman endorsement from the RJC.
He hates Cornholio, but I think the RJC proper is pretty RINO and will go with Cornholio.
Stockman is considered by Cornyn and his handlers the most dangerous threat because Stockman is a current U.S. House member, and has a war chest. However, Stockman is more opportunist than rock-ribbed conservative. He talks a good game, but...
Dwayne Stovall is the real deal. Solid TEA Party guy, and not in any way tainted with the poisonous whiff of D.C.
Stockman is running hard, but needs a cash influx. Has been well to the right of Cornyn. He was to the right of KBH, but that’s not saying much, and that’s why she lost the Gov race last time.
Funny thing is, when I clicked on the story, the ad populater dropped in two “Donate to Davis for Gov” ads. As if!
Apparently that’s even happening on Breitbart!
I thought he was a pretty good guy, but when he stabbed Ted in the back, he showed who he really is.
Rest assured corney, I’ll be voting against you.
I don't know if Stockman can pull an upset , and/or force a run-off..but he's gonna do very well, and that will strike the fear of Gawd into the Republicans running in southern state primaries after this race...
McConnell, in Kentucky, May 20th; Cochran, in Miss. June 3rd; Graham in SC, June 19th, and Alexander, in Tenn, August 7th. They're gonna be very nervous..and rightly so..
“...Funny thing is, when I clicked on the story, the ad populater dropped in two Donate to Davis for Gov ads. As if!”
*******************************************************************
When one of these liberal/progressive ads pops in on a conservative website’s page I always click on it on the premise that the liberal/progressive sponsor of the ad is going to have to cough up a couple of pennies (or fractions of a penny) some of which will wend its way to the conservative website.
Any way I can “bleed” progressives or RINOs (no matter how little) I do—such bleeding can add up if enough of us draw some blood.
So Stovall is best bet to unseat him? Or Stockman?”
Really don’t know the answer to that question. There is a concerted effort via the Houston Chronicle and TV adds to discredit Stockman. Cornyn apparently doesn’t consider Stovall a threat. Stockman was a Rep, but not for my district so I don’t know much about who he really is. Perhaps others on FR from Texas can give some insight.
I do know that we won’t vote for Cornyn or anyone other than Stovall or Stockman.
“I thought he was a pretty good guy, but when he stabbed Ted in the back, he showed who he really is.
Rest assured corney, Ill be voting against you.”
Wish Ted would point out who he likes so we conservatives can coalesce behind one.
My guess it would not be Cornyn
I think there are 4. Don’t know beans about any of them, but it’s early. One of the candidates needs to stay on the high road. reps have for too long ripped into each other, damaging each other to the point where the Dem looks good.
They really need to stop that crap.
Anybody the Houston Chronicle targets must be OK.
We need a Steve Stockman money bomb, or something. Anyone know if Stockman’s been endorsed by any of the Tea Party/conservative PAC’s? He definitely needs a quick influx of cash.
