The conspiracy theory is in thinking that this is leading to jackbooted thugs on every street corner, breaking down doors and rounding up undesirables. This isn't the next Nazi regime, Obammy isn't Hitler (he couldn't plan a takeover if you gave him a roadmap), the NSA cheif isn't Himmler. Just for the record, regardless of how dire you think things are, it's really hard to take you seriously when you use phrases like "may the chains rest lightly" and "when the whip comes down".

Oh, am I ever going to smile to myself. :)

If it gets that bad we are not going to be typing comments on this website anymore.

Well I have a little personal horror story for you. I’m a pain management physician in WI. I prescribe narcotic for chronic pain, so I need to do urine drug testing for obvious reasons. The Medicare Nazis hit me with a coding violation and they are threatening fines of 200k and accusing me of fraud. This is despite the fact that our claims were never denied, AND, my billing person frequently and routinely checked with the local Medicare carrier in Madison to verify that the codes were correct. Medicare never published any coding changes with the carrier in Madison, but they are contending that we should have known. Hopefully, I can settle with them.

But if I can’t, and they start going after my liberty all I can say is come and take it. There are so many laws and regulations now that a federal violation is nearly impossible to avoid. Those imprisoned under such regulations are really no different than political prisoners in a concentration camp.

This government is certainly capable of great evil, and if something isn’t done to turn things around real soon, we are looking at a new dark age.

They aren’t “after” terrorists...they ARE the terrorists.

The real impact of the Snowden revelations is yet to come.

There are many people engaged in a mad scramble to create secure web services based outside the US. The illegitimate snooping by the NSA has created a public that is hungry for security.

There are people working on new forms of secure communication tools with hard encryption that has not been weakened by the NSA. RSA is a dead man walking...done for.

Smartphones are coming under intense scrutiny, the firmware is especially suspect and the lack of hard encryption is a glaring fault. We need smartphones with open hardware and firmware.

There will be a move to secure silicon, this means integrated circuits of all sorts and especially processors and SoCs (system on a chip) will soon sell well only if the public can be assured they are not back-doored.

I think the days of back-doored routers, bios chips, HD controller boards, operating systems..etc are numbered.

The network is going to go dark, no more easy pickings for the NSA.

Open-source is our friend, Stallman was right all along. Hardware and software that is not open is not worth having.

Free people deserve privacy.

Indeed. The idea that FR or any of the conservative blogosphere would be even functioning partly under a police state is laughable.

That’s an eye opener.

That’s something to write to the editor about.

>>Tin foil hat?? For thinking we are in a police state?

You misunderstand me. I was responding to a comment where someone else was talking about tin foil hats. I think the NSA guy is right and we are in a police state, even though it is currently a warm and fuzzy one. But, that will end soon and the gloves will come off.

Just out of curiousity, are you also one of the people that think Obama engineered a plane crash to bump off one person very vaguely related to his birth certificate?

>>The information Age IS a joke, and I’m nowhere near 60.

Seriously? You’re sitting here on a computer, in a world full of electronic media and computer, using electricity generated by power plants that are run by computer (with human supervisory control) and you think that there is no Information Age?

Covering your ears and eyes and singing lalalala isn’t going to make reality go away.

I never said there wasn’t one. Get your story straight. There is one, it’s just a joke.

The firearms still present a problem to them.

That's the way I see it. They shouldn't mess with Texas.

A watched person is not a free person.

Numerous studies have shown that people change their behavior based upon whether someone with more power is watching them.

The NSA has already won because I guarantee you that everyone on this blog has checked their real opinions, or suppressed a joke, at some point.

I'm not sure what you're on, but my comment had nothing to do with the validity of drug laws, nor the disparate fan bases of crack addicts and Rush Limbaugh. To my knowledge, I've never read a single post of FR condoning illegal searches of scumbags.

I am not Herbert.

All governments either start out as or eventually turn into an oligarchy. It is the nature of power to become consolidated. Our forefathers understood this and that is why they created a constitution and a bill of rights. It is our constitution, our bill of rights, and our revolutionary history that stands between us and oligarchy and the wannabe oligarchs understand this. They also understand that they can't just completely disregard the constitution and the bill of rights but they can repeatedly and methodically undermine them until they are no longer an impediment to their agenda.

Examples of this undermining of the constitution and the bill of rights would be DUI sobriety checkpoints, firearm registration, police militarization, stop and frisk, the use of executive orders to circumvent the legislative branch and apply the law unequally, the mandate that we receive a vaccine or purchase a product.

These things chip away at the forms of our constitutional republic and, in so doing, create new forms, forms consistent with oligarchy.

So, it isn't Hitler's police state but Hitler's police state didn't just arise over night and neither will ours. Some of us recognize that and some of us recognize the aforementioned "chipping away" as a threat to our Constitution and, thus, our republic. We recognize that as you chip away at the stone, something else will have to take shape and we know what that will be. The sheepdog smells the wolf before he sees it if you will.

Bump for post #75

That is a most true on point statement.

Speech and thought is suppressed.

Back in 09 I suggested here, a guillotine party on the DC mall.

I was chastised for it (rightly so, I guess) but then came the big march that was ignored by the media.

Jim Robinson gets on here and pushes for a ten million man march and the thread just trickles away.

People are afraid. Tyrants love that.

I still dream of a guillotine party with RINOS first!
Alas, its only a dream.

Gotta go, just heard my front door bash open.....

Uh oh, look, they have the guillotines......

Sorry, I don’t blame you. I am just so frustrated right now and if anyone seems to defend this government, I just get this enormous urge to pounce. I think that many if us are being backed into a corner and something’s going to pop sooner than later.
I will post about my experience when all is said and done. I’m a God damed independent minded person since the day I was born, and I’m not going to let the government put me away.

In the current system, the government has the means to gather all the info it needs, to railroad anybody who displeases the powers that be.

Even a chief justice if they don't contort the Constitution to serve a federal government power grab.
