'I can't believe I've been shot': Last words of man killed by retired police captain (truncated)

A 43-year-old father was shot dead by a retired cop in a Florida cinema after a row about him texting his three-year-old daughter as they waited for the movie to start, witnesses said.

Chad Oulson was shot in front of his wife and horrified movie-goers during an argument with 71-year-old Curtis Reeves.

The victim's wife, Nicole, was injured in the shooting after holding her hands out to try to shield Mr Oulson during the confrontation at a movie theater near Tampa on Monday.

After Reeves fired at his chest the victim was heard saying: 'I can't believe I got shot', according to Fox News.

Reeves, who is facing life in prison if found guilty, has been charged with second-degree murder. During a hearing on Tuesday he appeared via video link, wearing a green suicide smock - a fire resistant outfit that can't be torn or turned into a noose.

The judge ruled he should be held without bond because of the severity of the charges, but the no bond ruling can't be confirmed until a live hearing with Reeves.

Don’t theaters have a rule against shooting people dead who break the cell phone rule?

Telling some idiot to turn off the damn phone in the theater was not threatening.

Why did the woman texter from three weeks before think it was threatening?

When he came back in the auditorium he had a gun — but no manager.

If he went to see management then how come they didn’t return with him???

I had to explain to our 30 year old son why texting at dinner was rude

That said, I'm waiting for the police and prosecutors to close ranks and try to figure out a way to get him off.

They already are. They had the perp change into a white jumpsuit at the scene so they could take his clothes "for evidence" - yeah, that's really normal. Wonder what those clothes will come back with now? Also, he's dressed in white, a kneejerk emotional color of innocence in America. In addition, the cops cuffed him in the front instead of the back, and then a single cop escorted him out to the police car by walking - in front - of the perp, showing no concern for safety. Then when the chief and his deputies came out for the presser, they were all smiling as if, hey, no big deal.

Oh yeah, the fix is already in.

Generally the manager will delegate it to an usher (”I’ll send someone in there”).

Being annoyed is not grounds for blowing someone away.

He couldn’t wait he was just too “cranky”. He just could not stand another second of that “clicking and light flashing” on the cell phone.

Somebody had to die, didn’t matter if it left a woman and child, he was just so “cranky”!

OMG!

Hothead was already confrontational about the retired guy being “uncool” for telling on him.

Kinda like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino?

I don't think Walt would have handled or even put himself in this particular situation but I think you have the right idea. These men have lived their lives watching their once great country slowly slide into a despicable mire more horrible than their worst nightmares. What passes for virtue today makes their skin crawl, they seethe with quiet distain for the pathetic disregard today's youth have for the values that carried prior generations through America's toughest challenges. It must be all they can do to maintain their civility among the barbarians that now make up the bulk of "society". Who is to blame them if they are to cry foul and turn loose the dogs of war, certainly not me but most of them don't because they have the character it takes to hold their fire until the enemy is in their sights.

May we all follow their lead and stand together against the foe.

Officials said Mr Oulson asked Reeves if he reported him to management for using his phone.

I wonder what Reeves answer to that question was???

A witness heard the question asked but did not say that he heard the answer — possibly because the answer to that question was in his pants.

I no way was I condoning the killing (unless threatened per my prior post), just giving some points of contention (knowing the MSM’s proclivity).

Again, until I know the whole story, I’ll keep judgement to myself.

And if I’d have been an armed third party in the theater I’d have gunned the ex-cop down where he stood.

Simple as that. The ex-cop was a bona fide threat to public safety in that moment and some should have took him down.

this is my beef with concealed or even open carry...normally, without a gun, people like this idiot would storm out of the theatre after demanding his money back, but with that gun in his belt, boy he's a big tough man isn't he...

guns can never ever be used in such a relatively trivial matter....

Your gunfire wouldn’t be a threat to public safety but the other guy’s gunfire was a threat?

I don’t get it.
