I lived in Hawaii for 3 1/2 years. I never thought the water was cold. But it may have felt that way to a 65 year old.

We were told the waves were high. Now we see the water was relatively calm. You can see the shore easily, especially with the mountains in the background. I would think that would help you mentally to know that you were so close to shore and help should be coming soon.

The guy who took the video said he felt weighted down because of his heavy clothing and his steel toed work shoes, so the captain gave him a flotation seat cushion too. I don't know why he didn't take off his shoes? But if Loretta Fuddy looked like she was in distress, seems like he or someone else would have offered her a seat cushion.

I imagine even someone 65 would have enjoyed swimming the waters of Hawaii and would be used to the water temp. I lived there a year myself a long time ago and do not recall the waters being cold. Interesting that no one mentioned the water being cold that day. I wonder what the temperature was.

It doesn't make sense to me how calm everyone was and then she just dies.
