Well here’s the root problem: Be wary of ANYONE who paints himself as a hero rather than a servant. (George Washington did NOT have this problem, incidentally.)

Note: an actual hero (heroine) will be fairly transparent and will grasp and promote heroic themes while speaking almost nothing of himself (herself). Be wary of the evil “I”.
