Some people see these tabs as a cure all and they aren’t. Useful in some cases but there are other things you can do.
Loading up your thyroid with safe iodide (or iodine, I forget which, but it doesn't matter) from the pills prevents your thyroid from absorbing the nuclear tainted iodide.
Depending on other conditions, it may or may not save your life.
I used to teach chemical - biological warfare survival.
It's far more likely you will survive a nuclear war, given the right circumstances, than old fashioned sword, spear, bow and arrow and battle axe warfare.
You can protect yourself from radiation.
They guy with the sword will hunt you down and kill you.
In the event of a national emergeency of that type the regime would use it as an excuse to crack down on Patriots ( they already know who we are), make us disappear, one way or the other, confiscate weapons and property, in essence, do the enemy's job for them.
So HHS, of all offices, is doing something right. I’m surprised. We should reestablish Civil Defense for that kind of stuff, though, and resume the Civil Defense medical self-help courses for high school students (something I did—much more than “self-help” in those courses).
Where I live a dirty bomb, spill, or meltdown is the highest possibility. I’m not too close to a potential nuclear target.
I believe this is injected the the hearts of babies in abortion clinics. In some cases. Like when they want to kill one baby but not the other such as in the case of twins, triplets, et cetra.
The other thing is it only protects against thyroid cancer. It does nothing for the rest of the body.
If only those damn conservative, Tea Baggers would have let us spend another trillion or 20 on green energy, we wouldn't have to use nuclear.
Not hard at all.
That’s a good link. Thanks for posting it.
As long as you are 25 miles away from the blast, you can survive with appropriate sheilding. IIRC, That could be a couple of feet of concrete all around you or 5 inches of steel, 3 feet of water, for example. Like maybe a bath room or closet?
You would need to stock about 2 weeks of supplies in the shelter with you, IIRC. After the first week, you can come out for a few minutes to dump your waste if you have to.
That will protect you very well from alpha and beta rays, but not gama rays. You will need a shelter-preferably underground and further sheilded as needed, with steel, lead, etc all around and above you.
<< Its also only useful for young children and people who dont have enough iodine in their diet.
So for most people it wont help much. >>
Not true. What everyone else said.
Besides, that’s easy for you to say. Aren’t you somewhere on the East Coast? lol.
CVS and Walmart online now say “out of stock.” Two days ago they had it. Maybe Janet Napolitano is stockpiling.
Shane! Thanks. I couldn't remember that for anything the other day.
Sorry. I just now read the rest of the thread.
...happily firing off impulsive responses before reading the thread since 1998.
Hard to believe that there are no "civilians" with the ability to take some readings. Unless they make the whole area off-limits to amateur "radiologists" I'd guess they have found nothing as of yet or it would have been in all the headlines:
JAPAN ATTACKS AGAIN - PAYBACK FOR HIROSHIMA/NAGASAKI
fwiw : I heard an analysis for the time following the initial Fukushima ‘plume’ that drifted to the USA, of cancers - and particular pockets where it occurred.
These corresponded with where there was RAINFALL at that time. And were scattered around the US, I think one was around Philadelphia.
“they do not know why this steam is being generated,”
I’m not there to take readings, but let me speculate- the spent fuel pellets have found a geometry that supports criticality.
