In her fervor to save unemployment benefits for out-of-work Americans, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee apparently got a bit tongue-tied.
The Houston Democrat called upon her fellow Congress members to extend jobless benefits for people with jobs.
"Let us vote to provide for unemployment insurance for working men and women so that faces across America will not have the tear of desperation on their faces," she said Dec. 12 during brief remarks before she was gaveled to silence when her time expired.
Jackson Lee's comment came on the eve of Congress leaving town for the holidays without addressing the impending end of emergency unemployment benefits.
On Monday, Jackson Lee said she plans to introduce legislation to both call Congress back to Washington and to extend emergency unemployment compensation until Jan. 1, 2015.

What is wrong grammatically with what she said? Nothing. There are many reasons to mock her but this is not one of them.

There are various tests (including aptitude and intelligence) and other hoops to jump through to become an E-1 (the lowest pay grade) in the armed forces ($18,194 a year salary) but no tests to become a member of the House ($174,000+ a year pay) if you can believe it...
How about we get all the Hollywood millionaires like George Clooney, Bruce Springsteen, Sarah Jessica Parker and all the rest who held fundraisers to help elect the worst President in US history pay for everyone who lost their job as a result?
I don’t believe Jackson Lee knows very much about how jobs, unemployment and the working thing works. She claims that she went directly from picking cotton as a slave to the U.S. Senate.

Instead of increasing the minimum wage, let’s have “low-employment” benefits to make up the difference.
If you make minimum wage, you could apply for benefits to bring your wages up to that fabled $15 per hour.
That way, Wal-mart and McD’s aren’t on the hook for the wages, and that Big Mac won’t cost too much.

I find your post to be ignorant. One doesn’t need to be unemployed to have unemployment insurance any more than one needs to be hospitalized to have medical insurance. She didn’t say she wanted to give benefits to working people - she said she wanted to give insurance to working people.
