GOP leaders to Rep. Radel: quit ‘immediately’
Miami Herald ^ | November 25,2013 | Marc Caputo

Florida's Republican chairman and the GOP county leaders represented by rehabbing Congressman Trey Radel called on him to “resign immediately” Monday, saying his recent cocaine-possession arrest and guilty plea were not tolerable.

“These actions have violated the trust of those whom he was elected to represent and fall short of the standards for an elected official; especially a member of the United States Congress,” the statements from the Lee and Collier county Republican executive committees said.

“His actions clearly disqualify the pursuit of another term and if he should run for re-election, he would not enjoy our support,” Radel's hometown Republicans wrote. “We feel it is in the best interests of all involved that he resign immediately.”

The two counties approved the statements in separate emergency meetings — all with the support of Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry.

Ugh. This is the RINOs in the Florida party trying to oust a Tea Party guy over a misdemeanor that he expressed REGRET over and vowed to get help.

This same GOP did squat when some party leaders STOOD BY AND DID NOTHING as Teri Schiavo was murdered by the judiciary.

What do you mean “what if”? They ARE. And worse.

This guy has been found guilty of a misdemeanor, admitted his problem, vowed to get clean, and that is more than almost any drug addled liberal politico in the last 35 years.

If the guy doesn’t clean up, his constituents can fire him. The administrators of the party are there to support the VOTERS’ choice, not DETERMINE the voters’ choice.

Henry Jude “Trey” Radel III, probably should resign, get himself straightened
out and at a later date see if the people in FL want him back as an elected official.
Apparently he’s taking a ‘leave of absence’ to get treatment, thus leaving
his constituents without representation they deserve.

What are the rules for his replacement in Florida?

************

There is a special election to fill the vacancy and it must go the entire process
such as, primaries,
runoffs, general election. So it takes sometime as opposed to a Senator replacement.

****
“When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive
Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.”

I was thinking the same thing. But with Kennedy, it was legally prescribed Ambien, not street cocaine.

You're not hearing me. If Obama or some of his underlings are determined to do drugs WHILE IN OFFICE, I want precedent on our side so we can drive them out.

You say the voters elected him. Did he campaign as an active drug user? Or did he let them believe he was a law-abiding constitutional conservative? The conservative movement is fragile and being attacked on all sides....he should go. Just as with all the powerful men with their sex lives on the side, it's just not okay to flaunt the law.

For the Republicans criminality is a liability politically. this is an election year. The Democrats who are guilty of far worse will use this as leverage.
