There was no internet news or Talk Radio for Reagan to become more informed on the issue.

By the 1990s members of the GOP were well aware of the mistake.

These idiots are proposing a disaster they have seen before and would take them 5 minutes of internet research to understand.

The list is getting shorter and shorter.

What is it with politicians?

There was a time when a pol who went against his electorate would face an old fashioned tar and feathering.

I think when he talks about illegal immigrants, he actually means us people trying to escape the Peoples Republic of Illinois.

Reagan made the same blunder (sigh).

Incomplete facts on your part. Reagan's law actually included strict enforcement which none of the current plans include. Add in the fact that Reagan stated, both to his Chief of Staff and his son Michael, that this was possibly his greatest political mistake, and it put's his actions into context.

Now, given that the previous Amnesty was such a failure, why would anyone who is supposed to be a conservative leader pursue such a wrong-headed policy position?

Reagan really opened it up.
Ronnies heart was in the right place but it is FUBAR. Ronnie said it was to be ONE Time, well now it is ALL the time!

Look, we ALL abide by the same laws.

Amnesty or giving one group different laws than the others results in a break down of law.

It is legal chaos.
Social breakdown.

I don't blame Walker for taking a position like he has...

The editorial board asked if he could "envision a world where with the right penalties and waiting periods and meet the requirements where those people could get citizenship?"

"Sure," Walker responded. "I mean I think it makes sense."

Seriously, what is the alternative...?

Deport all of them...Huh, that's not going to happen, even if we could it's not feasible...

It's easy to rant and rave about illegals. I'm one of them...but that doesn't solve the problem...

A form of pathway makes sense if done right, but first build a real fence, cut off all benefits, deport the scumbags and criminals...

Do that and many will self deport...the rest who are here to work and make this place a better place, give them a green card for three years...become a citizen by regular means or out the door you go...

You can not deny that Reagan opened that door, and he did not have a contingency plan.

“If people want to come here and work hard and benefit, I don’t care whether they come from Mexico or Ireland or Germany or Canada or South Africa or anywhere else,”
..........................................................
Me too Governor-—as long as they come here legally.

If they sneak in they should be sent back to where they came from.

Seriously, what is the alternative...?

Capitulation isn't the answer.

1. E-Verify for all employment.
2. E-Verify for all forms of social services at the Federal Level
3. E-Verify for all forms of social services at the State, County, and City level and no funding for anything from the Federal Government if they refuse.
4. Enforce all Immigration laws on the books.
5. Jail time for those who hire illegal aliens.

Just by implementing/enforcing these laws, you make it impossible for Illegal Aliens to stay in the US.

They will deport themselves.

Don't by into the left-wing media and corporate controlled GOP-E spin. It's not true.

The article is bunk from the Hill. And why is this article dated from July being posted now??

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/scott-walker-clarifies-his-stance-in-illegal-immigration-debate-lm8vluj-194096481.html

“But Walker’s actual comments - made in a webcast with Politico in D.C. - were ambiguous on what has been the most contentious question in the broad immigration debate: the status of millions of people living in the U.S. illegally. Walker never mentioned citizenship in his comments.

Is it any different than Ted Cruz’s legislation??

You can not deny that Reagan opened that door, and he did not have a contingency plan.

He opened that door for what was estimated to be 2 million or so Illegal Aliens with Amnesty, coupled with strict enforcement laws that would have shut the door forever if enforced.

The Democrats agreed with these laws, voted for these laws, and then refused to enforce, or even fund those laws.

By making that kind of statement you are leaving out half of the story.

Now, given that the previous Amnesty was such a failure, why would anyone who is supposed to be a conservative leader pursue such a wrong-headed policy position?

Because "you" didn't produce enough future workers to pay for all of the benefits that "you" expect to collect. They can either cut "your" benefits after which "you" will replace them with leaders who will restore "your" benefits, or they can import a workforce to pay for "your" benefits.

I'm not saying it's right, but that's how it is.

Perhaps you should read up on how similar the legislation Ted Cruz introduced to congress is.

First time I felt like the governor thing was the way to go, we got that POS from Georgia. That was the expensive cost of tuition for my political education. In my view, the next governor elected POTUS did much better. Scott leans more to the former than the later. Next...

If you had actually taken the time to listen to the YouTube embedded in that link, you would have found that Ted Cruz's position has always been, and still is, that there should never be a pathway to citizenship for those who came here illegally.

Gov. Walker wants to give them Citizenship, a sure Republic killer.

Apples and Oranges comparison.

That's the point that needs to be made over and over again.

If you want to buy into false stories, that’s up to you.

The story is a joke and SoCon has to go back to July but enjoy your name calling. Walker has enough integrity, I don’t think he needs any voters that engage in 3rd grade name calling.

Next.

Congrats on spreading a false story!

Congrats on lying to everyone here.

Sure, he didn't say the words citizenship, but when asked a direct question about Citizenship for Illegals, Walker answered in the affirmative.

Walker was then asked about the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the country illegally. The editorial board asked if he could "envision a world where with the right penalties and waiting periods and meet the requirements where those people could get citizenship?"

"Sure," Walker responded. "I mean I think it makes sense."
