Vance McAllister, a political newcomer with the backing of the popular "Duck Dynasty" TV family, is Louisiana's newest member of Congress.
McAllister, who largely self-funded his campaign, beat establishment candidate Neil Riser, a state senator, in Saturday's runoff election for the vacant 5th District seat.
Both men are Republicans.

McAlliister was an “outsider”, but sounds like a “Moderate” at best based on the article.

Looks like Moon Griffon endorsed Mcallister. Moon’s no RINO.
Riser is a rock-ribbed conservative with the record to prove it. McAllister is the “Tea Party” candidate solely because apparently some conservatives are convinced that some random guy off the street with no record one could look at to prove or disprove his conservative bona fides *must be* more conservative than an elected official, because, like, people in elective office cannot be true conservatives (but, wait, that “Tea Party” guy is now in elective office—he’s no good anymore!).
McAllister isn’t just squishy on Obamacare, he also came out in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens and for “reparations” for descendants of slaves. Yes, the “Tea Party” candidate ran to the left of Mary Landrieu. McAllister blatantly tried to attract black and liberal votes in the runoff (it was a general election, so Democrats could vote)—he even had ultraliberal black Democrat ex-Congressman Cleo Fields do robocalls for him!—betting that his liberal positions wouldn’t scare off mouthbreathers who will stop reading after they see that he calls himself “Tea Party” and that the other candidate is a state legislator. Well, it worked. I truly hope that McAllister was lying during the campaign just to win liberal votes, because otherwise he’s pretty much a Democrat in the House.
Voters have to freaking start reading and thinking before jumping on a candidate’s bandwagon. If you don’t know anything about Candidate A, and you know a lot about Candidate B and it’s 95% positive, why the heck would you support Candidate A just because he claims to be “Tea Party”?
McAllister won because Jindal was backing Riser and tried to engineer a rigged outcome for Riser. Jindal has lost much popularity in the state. Riser though would have probably been more conservative in his voting record than McAllister, but I think McAllister will be more conservative than Rodney Alexander was. Time will tell. I was surprised that Riser lost.
Ashamed to say it, I know exactly nothing about either.

Moon Griffon endorsed neither candidate; he is a personal friend of Riser but Griffon is strongly anti-Jindal. And Riser is considered in Jindal’s pocket. That’s what killed Riser’s chances despite his better name ID.
Well, the district does include LaSalle Parish and some of those other Dixiecrat parishes that, after voting overwhelmingly for Bush over Gore, voted overwhelmingly for the Democrat Blanco over Jindal in the 2003 gubernatorial runoff because Jindal was too dark-skinned for their taste ....
And the CD is, what, 25% black? With Cleo Fields and others telling black voters to cast their ballots for the reparations-promising McAllister, that gave him a good base of voters with which to begin.
Is it too early to start a petition for Elbert Guillory to run in the LA-05 next year?

The article was written by the Associated Press. Did you really expect them to say anything other than implying “another Tea Party candidate lost”.
We’ll see how his voting record turns out.

Stupid jungle primary, why the hell did they ever reinstate it? Riser placed first by a wide margin when democrats were voting for their own candidates in the first round. It’s a shame enough of the “anyone who says they are Tea Party is my guy!” crowd joined with the democrats in this election.
The skunk that was caught by an MSM show on ethics, Rodney Alexander, had just been elected SIX MONTHS PRIOR to his announcing his resignation from office. That resignation was voiced one day, after his voting to further fund the NSA.
Before his resignation took effect, we, the people of Louisiana, hear from Piyush ‘Bobby’ Jindal, (anchorbaby American), during an opening of a new business, that he has offered to Alexander a State-post, with a position as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. Alexander only has a record of serving, as a “weekend warrior”, and not as an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force.
Neil Riser, submitted his election papers, before Alexander had announced that he was going to be vacating his Congressional seat. Yes, Governor Jindal did endorse him, as did Alexander, and the NRA. Yet, in his fervor to seek his being elected, he copped a piece of video from the local PBS network, for one of his own advertisements.
Riser showed on Moon Griffon’s show one day. I heard the broadcast, and there were a few questions that should have a simple yes, or no, but Riser did the political side-step as well as Mary Landrieu does, which got Mr. Moon a little heated.
The Riser radio ads, portrayed him as the man that, by divine right, should have that Congressional seat.
The shenanigans, the false endorsements, being too much a buddy of Jindal, and not of the people of the 5th District - who he is supposed to represent, the refusal to answer a straight question, which was pivotal for his being elected, left him with the GOP-E stink.
Mind you, on controversial Constitutional Bill of Rights issues, Alexander voted on the side of The State, and not on the side of John and Jane Q. Public. His endorsement of Riser displayed that trend would continue, to the further erosion allowed by Statist yes-men.
So, in Rapides Parish, for the interim counting of votes by a total of 14,728 citizens (we show ID here), McAllister took 66.7% of the vote, at the 11pm news story.
This is no Tea Party win. McAllister is a liberal fraud. Disgraceful.
In other words, Riser is too hoity-toity for your taste, and Jindal’s parents were foreigners, so to stick it to them you decided to support a guy about whom the only things we know are that he supports amnesty for illegal aliens and reparations for descendants of slaves but who won’t support a bill to repeal Obamacare? Gotcha. I guess that Riser should have rejected Jindal’s endorsement and instead sought out ultraliberal ex-Congressman Cleo Fields (D-Zorro District) to record robocalls for him, like McAllister did.
