Cornyn: Republicans must show they are ‘responsible adults’ and will govern if elected

AUSTIN – U.S. Sen. John Cornyn – bedeviled by some in the tea party who’d prefer him to be more Ted Cruz-like – said Friday Republicans must prove they can govern like ‘responsible adults’ and be a big-tent party welcoming a variety of people who share their principles.

“What we’ve seen is that when we’re divided, we capitulate. We basically hand the victory to our political opponents. They win elections, and then they get to govern, and that leads us in disastrous directions like we’re seeing now,” Cornyn told reporters.

Cornyn was joined by Gov. Rick Perry at a re-election rally at Scholz Garten before formally filing for re-election as senator.

“We need to demonstrate that if the American people are willing to give us the opportunity in this next election to win that election, then we will be the responsible adults in the room. We will actually govern,” Cornyn said.

Cruz hasn’t endorsed Cornyn for re-election, saying he expects to stay out of incumbent primary elections overall. But Cornyn’s campaign has said Cruz’s political action committee donated to Cornyn’s re-election.

Asked whether he believed Sen. Cruz — who played a leading role in the government shutdown spurred by opposition to the federal health care law — is acting like a responsible adult, Cornyn said, “I think he’s been a great new addition to the United States Senate. The sort of galvanizing attention he gave to the failures of Obamacare during his 21-hour speech I thought was very helpful. We had a minor disagreement over tactics, and that happens but we all live and learn.”

Cornyn said he believes they share the goal of replacing Obamacare “with something that’s actually affordable and works.”

Prove yourself by convincing John McCain to retire, and then we’ll talk about letting you run alongside the Cruz Bandwagon

I don't care why they do it.

I just want Cornyn fired.

And I promised him that I would do everything in my power to make that happen in the upcoming election.

Does anyone have any idea WHAT this guy means by that?

all cornyn has to do is treat conservative republicans how he treats democrat liberals, just be ‘french’ and surrender to both. why he only wants to fight with fellow party folks seems irrational.

the hypocrisy is overwhelming.

hopefully he’s gone soon.

Clowns like this who think they can lecture us like children are part of the problem.

He doesn’t get to dictate what voters want.

We don’t lose elections because we are divided. Our division actually has it’s roots in unprincipled, hackneyed, equivocators, such as yourself , who can only be depended upon to act juvenile singing “Kimbaya” on the one hand and begging everyone to act”Can’t we all get along” Sophistries.

That sir, is juvenile and “”YOU” are the one who has failed to launch and fully evolve into a responsible and reasoned adult.

Now go sit in the corner!

You need some time out!

"be a big-tent party welcoming a variety of people who share their principles."

Paradoxical and doublespeechifying.

McCornyn?

He is worthless.

He only “supports” conservative values when he knows doing so no longer makes any difference. He is a lying pos.

“just be ‘french’ and surrender to both”

Why insult the French? They surrendered to the Germans only after a 6 week battle where they lost 360,000 dead and wounded and inflicted 157,000 casualties on the Germans. The British fled the battlefield. The French finally had no rational means left with which to deal with the blitzkrieg.

The GOP on the other hand simply does not fight. Ever. Never. In fact, they collaborate. They would have met the Germans at the border with a ribbon cutting ceremony, beer and brats, and put out press releases about how hard they fought.

The GOP never fights like the French did.

Yes. He means we can’t be like that troublemaker Ted Cruz, making things uncomfortable for the Ruling Class by bringing up the “Constitution” and “individual rights” and “constraining the government.”
