In a recent conversation, a good buddy enraged by his new private insurance premiums and $5,800-per-year deductible said something that struck me as undoubtedly prophetic.
"I'd literally need to be dying before I would start paying this ridiculous deductible for routine care."
Under ObamaCare, those who work for a living incur massive premium and deductible increases to subsidize those that cannot or will not provide their own insurance. In the universe of ObamaCare, unless you are among the privileged dependency class that enjoys free health care, gone are the days when cautionary calls can be made to the doctor because a child has a stomachache or bad cough, because such calls will cost you five hundred bucks or so.
As with so many utopian policies of the progressive Left, ObamaCare is rife with unintended consequences that inflict pernicious pain and damage on society.
When Ideology Trumps All
In December of 2009, Mark Steyn adroitly warned,"Democrat operators ... know that what matters is to get something, anything across the river, and then burn the bridge behind you" and that single-payer, government-run health care is "the fast track to a permanent left-of-center political culture."
As recently as August 12 of this year,...Harry Reid openly confirmed Steyn's prediction that ObamaCare is but a stepping stone toward achieving the ultimate goal of the progressive left:a single-payer system.
Now that the Obama administration has rolled out its self-proclaimed "single greatest achievement," some hard facts are finally becoming known about costs and sign-up counts, even as the government fights tooth and nail to prevent such disclosures. And for good reason: Medicaid enrollment is soaring, and new paid policies are almost nonexistent.
Financially, Obama looks to be much worse than a train wreck, but progressives don't really care about money. It's all about the ideology and getting everyone over that bridge.

Great post!
BUMP!!
High deductibles used to be a way to determine what level of coverage you are willing to buy. If you could afford a higher deductible, it was smart to choose that and often the savings from monthly premiums made up the high deductible. Now we appear to have lost the choice because our overlords think they know better.
SNL Mocks Disconnect With Reality Black Obama Supporters Seem To Have
Fn funny - but true......
“Wouldnt it have been cheaper, for the gov to just put everybody on medicare?”
1. Theoretically you had to work and pay into the Medicare system for decades before you became eligible for it. Yet, you’re proposing to GIVE to everyone else what you worked for all your life to obtain?
2. Medicare is GROSSLY underfunded and is not sustainable in its current form. But you’re proposing to add tens of millions of MORE people to a non-sustainable situation?
3. Obamacare is not about healthcare reform: it’s about redistribution of earnings. Obamacare is all about transferring money from one group to another: from young to old, from healthy to sick, from earners to non-earners.
So THAT’s why GIVING everyone Medicare was not done.
The dunces who wish for single payer will be the first ones to howl when the get it and find out what it actually is. Just as the supporters of Obamacare are howling now that they are getting screwed by their hero. Of course, they never learn.
Reread my post I was not proposing it, I asked the question, "would it have been cheaper".
Man, you sure attributed a lot to me that I didn’t say or even hint at.
You'd be living to pay for your Obamacare.
“Wouldnt it have been cheaper, for the gov to just put everybody on medicare?”
I just took your question at face value and answered it.
In my view, it's cheap insurance, because if you're old enough to be in Medicare, there's a decent chance you will need it during the year.
No, you didn't. You said that I "proposed to put everybody on medicare", I most emphatically did not.
Further, that I'm "proposing to put 10s of millions more on an unsustainable situation" - Your words, not mine because I said no such thing and you know it. You made it up, which makes you a lot like obama, make up a lot of shit, sling it out there and see what sticks.
The words I want from you but never in a million years will I see, is for you to write. "I made a mistake friend, I apologize".
Go ahead and have the last word - as if you'd have it any other way.
