The framers actually expected no shortage of demagogues in the House of Reps. That is the nature of popular assemblies.

What they didn’t remotely consider was the presence of such men in the Senate.

Jim Oberweis is a Republican, successful Business man running against Dickie Durbin in 2014.

I have been collecting signitures for him.

That’s because they put the selection of senators in the care of the state legislatures, rather than a popular vote. Once senators degenerated into statewide super-congressmen, all bets were off.
