If Bush were doing this, it would be on the front page of the New York Times and the top story on every network for months on end.

Yep, and really, I could care less about what foreign governments and officials think about NSA spying---it's doing what I would expect it to do under the national security Act of 1947. It's the domestic spying on American citizens within our own country that I intensely dislike.

At any rate, this is where Snowden is doing real national security damage, and crosses the line from heroic whistle blowly to Bradley Manning-Julian Assaunge villainy.

I am not here to defend Obama. I think spying on "allies" began long before Bush.

The German's knew about this a long time ago. So did the other "allies". Now that it is brought into the public eye, they are aghast.

What they are really complaining about is the continued existence of the "five eyes" intelligence network. This loose organization dates from the 1940's and is the most exclusive alliance in the world. Membership is limited and closed. Members have the luxury of access to world class sigint. Germany, Japan, France and the others are jealous. They know they will always be targets and will never be full members.

The words “in the Obama adminstration” were carefully uttered. Obama has been thrown under the bus and then run over.

The statement indicates publicly, to the world, that Obama lost a vote of confidence. She announced what has likely been coming a long time. Obama just doesn’t measure up.

Obama is now persona non grata in Europe. Merkel follows the lead of the Saudi’s prior announcement that can be taken as the disgust and disdain of a strong ally. If we get a statement from say Japan or Korea, the trifecta will be complete. Everybody is free to beat up on the incompetent in the White House

This series of events is blurred by the Obamacare disaster but is more important. The world leadership has declared the American President to be unfit to perform on the world stage.

As an American ex-pat in Germany it was my personal experience and my observation as well that Americans have no idea of the importance Germans place on privacy. They have extensive "Datenschutz" laws in place protecting the privacy of everyone.

This concern applies even to taking of photographs and publishing them of the front of one's house.

The media in America are passing this off with a series of lame jokes which do a disservice to our national interest, of course, it places the interest of Barack Obama first which is both his personal priority and the priority of the media.

Expect the price of oil to shift soon from a US Dollar base to either a "MarketBasket" base or a Euro base. The rest of the world will jump in to kick the USA while it's down.

The price of oil in US dollars will soar, even while the Liberals fight tooth & nail to prevent exploration, drilling, transportation and refining of oil in the US.
