VIDEO: McConnell: From now on we will automatically surrender to the Democrats

Hey, he didn’t say that, you tell me. Well, those were not his words, but that’s exactly what he said.

Mitch McConnell, thoroughly chastened over having reluctantly gone along with Ted Cruz and House Republicans on the recent shutdown, gives his confession and repentance to the Beltway media as personified by Bob Schieffer on CBS, and makes a promise that Republicans will not bring about any more shutdowns.

The downhome Kentucky saying about the mule kick is very charming, I guess, but here is the problem: When you control one house of Congress, spending measures cannot be passed unless your side agrees to support them. This is called leverage in negotiations. Now, leverage in negotiations only means anything as long as you are willing to walk away in the event you cannot get the other side to acceptable terms. Everyone familiar with negotiation understands the absolute weakest negotiator is one who is afraid to walk away without a deal.

You absolutely have to have that car, and the dealer knows it? Do you think the price is going to go up or down. Up, of course, because the dealer knows you want the car so badly you will pay the higher price.

By promising that under no circumstances will there ever be another government shutdown, what McConnell has done is telegraph to Harry Reid that he will absolutely, under no circumstances, walk away from the table without a deal.

The real fool’s errand. Everything Ted Cruz stood up again is failing miserably and these clowns won’t fight. Pathetic.

If Kentuckians can swing it, hopefully *itch McConnell won't be in Washington to make the next call.

? FromNOW?

I thought that was what they had been doing since Reagan left. No, since Newt.

Well Reagan and Newt both had a lot of opposition from the democrat wing of the Republican Party (the one in power now) so I guess the appeasement has been in effect for a lot longer

But I think McConnell is off by about 50 years at least

Bitch Mcconnell must go. It's time to send him back under the rock he crawled out of. I can't stand even looking at the creep. His face looks like an ass with glasses on it.

Bitch would have earned a modicum if respect from me if he had said something like this: “Yes, I realize that the odds were long and we probably would not be able to get what we wanted. But we felt that, in light of the unfairness and harshness of the impact of Obamacare on the American People to do nothing was unacceptable. So yes, I suppose, in no small part thanks to the Media’s tendency to favorably cover this President, that the Republican Party paid a political price. But sometimes regardless of that political price you have to fight the good fight to do what is right for the American People. Trying to lessen the impact of Obamacare is right for the American People and a fight worth having. Yes, I would do it again.”

Reid and Obama already know that. McConnell was communicating the cave message to the MSM to get them to like him better.

I believe this sort of squishy talk happens when you don’t stand up for what you believe in. McConnell has been so worried about getting reelected he hasn’t been doing his job for the past few years. (Okay...maybe he never did do his job).

I also think two other things are at play here. McConnell has been in DC for too long and the Kentucky HC program has seen quite a bit of good publicity and lots of sign ups. So ol’ Mitch has got himself a problem because he’s trying to play the middle now. IMO...it never, ever works to play the middle.

Say what you mean and stand up for what you believe. Pretty gosh darn simple.

And you never win by negotiating thru the press nor by saying what you won’t do.

Idiot.
