Sens. Cruz, Lee say they won't block deal By Mike Lillis - 10/16/13 12:38 PM ET
Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee said Wednesday that they won't try to block the bipartisan deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.
"The timing of the vote will make no difference to the outcome," Cruz (R-Texas) said. "I have no intention of delaying the vote."
Cruz and Lee (R-Utah) had spearheaded the campaign to attach ObamaCare language to any new budget bills, and had pushed their colleagues to take a hard-line stance.
But the pair emerged from a meeting of Senate Republicans Wednesday afternoon to say they would let the agreement — which contains only one provision on ObamaCare — move forward.
"Some of us want to see it first — we still don't have text," Lee said. "But provided we get the text and have time t review it and everything, I suspect we'll collapse the time."
There has been speculation that the bipartisan deal might originate in the House, thereby eliminating some procedural hurdles when the bill moved to the Senate. But with Cruz and Lee withdrawing their filibuster threats, several GOP senators said the upper chamber will likely act first on the agreement.
The deal reached by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt-ceiling until February. It would require income verification for subsidies under ObamaCare, but otherwise leave the helathcare law untouched.
The weeks-long fight over ObamaCare has left the GOP sharply divided and licking its wounds, after centrist Republicans warned for weeks that the battle was futile and damaging to the party.
Several Republicans left the meeting Wednesday grumbling that the conservatives in their ranks had prolonged the impasse even as Republicans were sinking in the polls.
"We left a lot on the table because we couldn't get our act together, but this is the best Mitch could do," said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who will vote for the deal. "We need to stop the bleeding, lessen the damage to the party."
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) echoed that message.
"I hope it is another 15 years at least before we have to go through this exercise again," McCain said. "We're in a hole, we have to dig out and come up with a positive agenda."

Guarantee you that Obozo and his family and all of Congress are still except, and any other special interest group that donated’s a few million to the Muslim-in-chief’s democrap party. CommieCare is only for those that can’t afford to buy their out of it. That the haves have special exemptions to this pile of garbage and the have-not have to participate should be grounds for impeachment. But once again, the worthless GOP cowers down like a dog in heat to this worthless POS. We live in a banana republic. Just another corrupt 2nd rate country with no laws.
The whole defund thing was stupid to begin with. Two, quite large, roadblocks stood in the way (Reid/Obama). There was no reason to think or believe that we could overcome them. None. Our best bet to repeal this monstrosity is to do it by taking the Senate and winning the WH. Will that be hard? Very. But it’s our only true shot.

Now you are spouting what you called defeatism just ~ 14 hours ago.
Now its OK a few hours later.
I said exactly what would happen, you called that defeatism. Now you say its a great.
You need to become a little more astute.
We were not going to stop Obamacare with this method, not after the ENTIRE GOP establishment cabal turned on the effort.
Cruz would have simply been whistling past the graveyard with another filibuster, and would probably have ended up damaging the defund effort, since although the US would not default, we would be downgraded for all this chaos.
The results of this entire debacle were twofold.
A) Obama and his law’s favorables have tanked
B) We have the invaluable senate votes taken by Pryor, Landreaiu, Hagan and Begich to smash them with in 2014.

Hey I’m just extremely angry and feel betrayed by boner etc.
I just posted one comment.
I thought we were finally getting somewhere by shutting the gov down, the protests by the truckers, etc. and now this. just feel devastated
so it’s now on the house. on the phones as we speak. we need to extract every last bit of information on boehner’s vote.
It’s alright. We’ll have the last laugh when all is said and done.

In a funk, because two men in the Senate can’t run off a body full of socialist Republicans and Marxist Democrats from making a deal, and then single handedly herding from their senate seat a House leadership full of long time squishes?
Take you’re whine to the media tavern for your face time and camera shots. You will all fit in nicely on the victim channel pointing your powdered finger at patriots.

This is such a bad law. Ted Cruz truly fought a good fight. Healthcare and personal finances for over 300 million people is going to affected by this. Senator Cruz tried to stop it in the eleventh hour. It’s hard to pull off something big like this when you have your own party stabbing you in the back. During the next major elections, we will the advantage of saying “we told you so”. Hopefully that will enable us to get rid of the socialists once and for all.

You should be much more polite than you are to others since you so regularly contradict yourself.
The income verification was already in the law so they got NOTHING.
