Up to 140 infants possibly exposed to tuberculosis at Nevada hospital

LAS VEGAS – Health officials urged tuberculosis testing for hundreds of babies, family members and staff who were at a Las Vegas neonatal intensive care unit this past summer, saying they want to take extra precautions after the death of a mother and her twin babies and the infection of more than 26 people.

Authorities with the Southern Nevada Health District said Tuesday that they're working to contact parents of about 140 babies who were at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center's NICU unit between mid-May and mid-August, and have set up a temporary clinic to test them.

Tests of hospital staff and friends and family of the mother have revealed 26 TB infections, although most of those cases are latent — meaning patients don't show symptoms and aren't contagious...

When I was growing up, TB testing was done every year on everyone at school. They should never have stopped doing it.

this is how far the country’s fallen in 100 years.

if you had serious tb 100 years ago, our policies would have people crying “keep them out!” and they did.

nowadays it’s an excuse to “keep them here” because they need treatment.

sad.

That's because the Americans of today are more compassionate, donchaknow? Certainly as contrasted with those Neanderthals that inhabited this land decades ago. Get with the program!

I contracted atypical TB 40 years ago. I was locked into the TB ward at Milwaukee General Hospital.. It took the 9 months to figure out my TB was from plants, and not contagious. Took meds for a couple years though. Not fun! I was coughing and breaking ribs. 15 altogether, some 3 or four times. I lost everything I had while I was locked in.
Build an Israeli-style fence on the Border. Stop this nonsense. Reopen TB wards. Get patients out of the general population.

Cities and states that have high numbers of third-worlders — especially illegals, because they go through no medical screening before they come here to pollute and contaminate — have the most incidences of TB. TB had been pretty much eradicated in this country before the massive invasion of illegals. I read somewhee that TB here is much, much higher than the numbers show, because many of the infected do not present themselves for examination and treatment (unless they are in California, in which case they use hospital ERs as their HMOs and PPOs, at no cost or expense to themselves).
