DOOMED TO FAILURE
Doomed to failure...doomed to failure...doomed to failure...
Again and again we hear the parrots in the political aviaries squawk about how Ted's effort is "doomed to failure". Nothing could be further from the truth.
Ted's strategy is sound but requires republicans in Congress to fight and for democrats with a conscience to stand on principle. Even if zero democrats stand on principle (and some joined House republicans on the CR), republicans can still win.
THE STRATEGY
Only 41 Senators are needed to vote against the approaching vote for cloture.
IF 41 Senators vote against cloture, THEN:
Harry Reid must decide EITHER
1. To allow a vote on the CR WITH DEFUNDING Obamacare language as-is OR
2. Not allow a vote on the original CR.
In either case as expected the government will be unfunded and will shutdown but the blame will be on the Senate. This is the strategy.
What is doomed to failure is the Senate democrats passing the original CR. But then they and they alone are responsible for shutting down the government as the original CR funds all of government except Obamacare.
The way the Senate democrats escape responsibility unscathed is to pass a vote for cloture, strip out the defunding language and send it back to the House. Even in this eventuality the House republicans can still win by passing smaller funding CRs for essential spending and denying an increase in the debt ceiling.
It's not over and we need to let Congress know that this fight is in no way 'doomed to failure'.
Calls and faxes to Senators must continue unabated,
Bttt
Great analysis. Do the Senators understand this?
The quislings in the GOP will vote with Reid for cloture so that he only needs 51 Democrat votes, instead of 60 votes to pass the funding for ObamaCare. All the 46 Republicans will vote against the final bill so they can say they opposed it in their campaign ads, but it’s a meaningless vote.
Sen. Ted Cruz made that point again and again during his speech, warning people about worthless “symbolic” votes, the kind GOP senators are so good at.
Win, lose, or draw — if Obama loves his monster-care so much, let him shut down the government to prove how much he loves it more than the US. Who comes out petty? Obama and Reid. And who knows? There could ultimately be a major cave in the DNC. Not now of course, but two months from now, maybe.
But now Bone-head is seeing fifth columnists shooting at Cruz. How brave is the Bone-head? [Two guesses...]
Cruz is flushing senate RINOs out of their holes, and they HATE it.
I am still talking about Ted’s superhuman speech!!!! I am still sending out thank you notes to him and Mike Lee! BTW It appears he GAINED over 12k followers on Twitter Tues night. Unlike Obama’s fake followers of 19.5 million, I suspect Ted’s followers are 100% real.
Fun thought - if Cruz ever threatens to filibuster in the Senate,,I think the Dems will actually take him seriously. I know I will!
You are absolutely right we could win IF the House doesn’t blink. That’s all we need. Then the naysayers would be left defending Obama-care. It’s an albotross.
But the RINO leadership is trying to confuse us. They are convinced that the rats will stick with Oabma-care to the bitter end. Well MAKE THEM. DARE them to. Heck, even professors are losing family coverage! Truckers are thinking about a strike over this.
Actually I have found very few here that say they believe that Obama and Reid will be forced to defund Obama-care as in Cruz commercial.
In fact one here in comments clearly told me that this was never about doing that, that he knew it it never was possible, and that this was always just about identifying the non conservatives to purge them.
not kidding, that its all about blaming others.
I truely hope that Cruz beats Obama on this. Its not over yet.
He’ll take that credit or blame but truly what he’s doing is representing the will of the taxpayers who get taken for granted and ibnired by the republicans. Republicans
For the dems this is business as usual
The wimps in the HOR better listen
The base wants you to allow it to get shut down or whatever it takes to stop this thing
Wow! What a great photo!
Yes. It was captioned “Well, someone did SOMETHING “.
In a bit more than a week the majority of Americans will be going into open enrollment when they supposedly choose their health care options. ONLY THIS TIME MANY WILL HAVE NO HEALTH CARE OPTIONS, MANY WILL SEE STAGGERING HEALTH CARE PREMIUM INCREASES AND THEY WILL NOT BE HAPPY.
Obama and the Democrats clearly stand for the blame here.
Ted has highlighted to the American People and to Congress that this is a VERY BAD LAW. And, Ted has indicated where the blame should go.
Not to mention that the AHCA kills the 40 hour work week, causes small businesses at 51 to 60 employees to trim back to 49 and will shortly be a major pain to a huge amount of Americans.
In short the AHCA will significantly change America for the WORSE and Ted just nudged the American Giant so when the GIANT AWAKENS AND IS NOT HAPPY HE WILL KNOW WHO TO BLAME.
The House should pass the ORIGINAL bill sans exceptions and send it right back to the Senate.
“Democrats ... conscience ... principle ...” Three words that do not belong in the same sentence. If that’s part of your strategy, you’d better come up with a Plan B.
The last time I believed in Democratic principles was during the Clinton impeachment vote. The evidence was ironclad, but to a man, the Dims voted to save their plastic dashboard icon. With the help of a few traitorous Republicans (Arlen Spector anyone?), the Philanderer-in-Chief walked.
NEVER count on Democrats having any morals, any conscience, or any principles save self-preservation.
It’s easier to attack Cruz than to make a stand against Obamacare. Cowards!
Reread the analysis and strategy posted above. Read it carefully. Your point about democrats is taken into account and the strategy is still sound.
I agree. This is a game of 'chicken'. The House (and 'We The People' by the way) says defund 0bamacare. The Senate says no. If there is no resolution to the deadlock, each house of Congress is equally responsible for the consequences, including shutdown.
This is not a 'Republican' government shutdown. However, I don't expect the current Speaker to be courageous enough.
