"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

While Mr. Cruz has appealing qualities, I am concerned about his eligibility to be president.

Indeed, as am I. Wonderful man, excellent senator. Stay, Ted, Stay! Stay in the senate! We worked very hard to get you in there - which is why the RINOs want to take you away from us.

While Mr. Cruz has appealing qualities, I am concerned about his eligibility to be president.

Please show me in the US Constitution the relevant parts that define "Natural Born" as requiring 2 citizen parents?

Lacking that, please provide references/links to relevant US Laws passed by Congress and signed by a US President that define the "Natural Born" requirement as needing 2 citizen parents.

Lacking that, please provide references/links to Supreme Court rulings that define "Natural Born" as needing 2 citizen parents.

Until you can do that, there is no Constitutional requirement with regards to POTUS "Natural Born" requiring 2 citizen parents.

In other words, you can be concerned all you want, but Senator Cruz IS eligible to be President until Congress passes a new law or the Supreme Court rules on the matter to match the 2 citizen parent requirement that you apparently believe is what the founders meant and should apply today.

I always get the impression, when listening to his speeches, that he has perfected a style of contrived sincerity.,

“Please show me in the US Constitution the relevant parts that define “Natural Born” as requiring 2 citizen parents?”

The US Constitution explicitly distinguishes between the natural born citizens and those born outside of the united states who become citizens. Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution.

Why did the Fathers include this? They included this because they wanted to be sure that the highest office in the land was someone who was free of entanglements and was loyal to the united states, in an empirical fashion that would not change. You can purchase and acquire citizenship - where you are born cannot change.

Cruz was born in Canada. He does not have an American birth certificate. He has a Canadian birth certificate, a Canadian passport and he is a natural born Canadian citizenship, acquired from birth in Calgary Alberta.

Thus, he falls afoul of Article II section 1 of the US constitution. He is not eligible.

I’m sure the Democrats are thinking the same thing digging too as they dig nto their law books and figuring every avenue to challenge his eligibility. Make no mistake they fear Cruz more than anyone else on the GOP side and will use any means necessary to take him off the table as a presidential candidate.

I see I have opened a can of worms, but he was born in Canada and one of his parents was born in Cuba.

I have a feeling that if he was a liberal Democrat, many here would be banging the, “He is not eligible” drum.

It’s important to have consistent standards.

Indeed. I share the exact same opinion. It’s ok because it’s Cruz. No, it’s not ok.
