Liz Cheney: ‘I Am Not Pro-Gay Marriage’
Mediaite ^ | August 31st, 2013 | Evan McMurry

Wyoming senatorial candidate Liz Cheney definitively stated her opposition to gay marriage on Friday, despite the pro-marriage stance of her father Dick Cheney, and her sister Mary Cheney, who married her partner last year.

“I am strongly pro-life and I am not pro-gay marriage,” declared Cheney in a campaign statement. “I believe the issue of marriage must be decided by the states, and by the people in the states, not by judges and not even by legislators, but by the people themselves.”

Cheney issued the statement because she felt opponent (and friend of her father’s) Mike Enzi was “distorting her views” on the issue via a robocall that asked respondents, “Are you aware that Liz Cheney supports abortion and aggressively promotes gay marriage?”

“The people of Wyoming deserve an honest campaign,” Cheney said. “They should not be subject to the kind of dirty tricks this push poll represents.”

UPDATE: A spokesman for Enzi told The Daily Caller they are not behind any push poll:

“Neither Mike Enzi’s campaign, nor anyone affiliated with his campaign, has conducted any polls in Wyoming,” spokesman Coy Knobel said in an email. “He would never support a push-poll, or tolerate anyone working for him who conducted one. For Liz Cheney to assert otherwise, without any proof whatsoever, shows more about her campaign than Mike Enzi’s.”

Knobel added: “Mike Enzi prefers to focus on traveling around the state and talking to people one-on-one. That tells him what he needs to know about what Wyoming people are thinking.”

UPDATE II: A Cheney campaign spokeswoman responds to the Enzi campaign’s statement to TheDC:

“This is an evasive answer,” spokeswoman Kara Ahern told TheDC. “Senator Enzi should instruct any entity, including the NRSC, doing polling on his behalf to stop this type of dirty tricks.”

That robo call was so over the top that it wouldn’t surprise me if Cheney’s team was the initiator of it... to play the victim card.

Why would Enzi do it when he’s leading by about 50 points?

And Liz, you aren’t Dick Cheney either even though you are close since you dick up just about every situation into which you have dabbled. Do the citizens of Wyoming and yourself a huge favor—end your political career now.

Yes... and no doubt she'll have a Rob Portman "Change of Heart" moment immediately after she is elected.

And yet, Federal judges are already deciding, even in those states that have not specifically 'decided' the issue.

[Liz will morph into anything she thinks the conservatives would like and turn into a 'moderate' if she wins.]

Hmm. That is not republican (in terms of form of government), but purely democratic. The Founding Fathers believed in private morality upholding the state(s), not letting popular democracy decide whether a state goes Sodom/Gomorrah.

Falling back on the “States Rights” position for either Pro-Life or Anti-Gay Marriage issues is the position of cowards and those who could either care less, or would rather not fight for her so-called anti-gay marriage position.

>> Mike Enzi was “distorting her views" <<

I think Liz Cheney's the one "distorting her views". In 2009, she fully supported her father and sister's position, and was all for the federal government promoting gay marriage:

“Q. How do you feel about the California Supreme Court's decision [on Proposition 8], and what do yo think the Obama administration should do on the question of same-sex 'marriage'?”

“A. Well, look, I think, you know, my family has been very clear about this, that we think freedom means freedom for everybody."

I applaud the State Department decision to extend benefits to same-sex partners around the world. I think it's wrong to discriminate in those relationships based on somebody's sexual preference.”

“I certainly would not like to see a constitutional amendment, as was suggested in the last administration, banning it.”

During the 1964 campaign, Lyndon Johnson, despite having a BIG lead, had his people call voters in the middle of the night before Election Day to ask them to vote for Goldwater.

Liz Cheney has been forceful and strong in promoting the homosexual agenda for years including homosexual marriage.

During that time of being the strong bold speaker for homosexuality, she had never revealed any pro-life leanings and had pointedly avoided the abortion issue.
