Darren Manzella, a gay combat medic discharged from the Army after criticizing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in a 2007 television interview, has died in a traffic accident in western New York. He was 36.

Too late.There's no reason to believe that he changed his "misguided" ways before death.
Yup.All the main Interstates (5,10,70,80,90,95,etc) have spur roads in more than one state.For example,there's an "I-495" in MA,NY,MD and FL.
Maybe his purse got in the way of proper control of the car.
