Original headline: Alison Lundergan Grimes… or Grinch? Kentucky Senate candidate blames donut burger for soaring health care costs

Grimes, a Democrat vying to replace Mitch McConnell, blamed an indulgent American diet in her explanation for why Kentuckians need Obamacare.

Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes was a buzz kill this week at the Kentucky State Fair.

The 34-year-old Democrat blamed the best of American cuisine for rising health care costs, speaking to the press at the "Grannies for Grimes" event in Louisville.

"You just have to look over to the right where you see the donut burger, the chili cheese-steak and the covered french fries that are here," she said, explaining why Kentuckians need Obamacare to help cover medical costs.

As bad as McConnell is, Lundergan-Grimes is much worse. She will rubber-stamp everything zero and the dems want. And McConnell is much worse than Bevin.

Apparently the new fad is cronuts . . . a cross between a croissant and a donut.

Let’s say for sake of argument it’s true.

The impact is within Kentucky. In terms of insurance plans and rates. Not nationwide. Second, as they are reflected within Kentucky, rates paid by these people are adjusted accordingly. Third plans already factor in individual high risk factors and make people pay for them, and we hear from these very same folks in other stories that sometimes these pre-existing conditions aren’t even covered so those costs are not being covered by others paying insurance.

Liberals never look at the prices charged when they like who’s doing the charging.

education is so high. Medical care is so high. In these cases they love the businesses and demonize the consumers. Never the liberal universities, never the medical institutions who practically double the prices when someone has insurance versus paying the whole thing out of pocket, or double bill for something or pad the bill with procedures you didn’t have.

if she had any real courage she’d hold a press conference on the matter outside the pretty popular Tom-Chees in the über Liberal areas along Bardstown Road and in St. Mathews (Louisville). Which feature grilled cheese sandwiches made using donuts ...

Rising costs are also caused by policies internal to Kentucky.

Another reason allowing people to purchase policies across state lines and breaking up these monopolies is a good idea...the “exchanges” only make this problem much worse as they are also trapped within states.

I've met tree stumps with a better grasp of cause and effect than that.

Hope she never comes to the Texas state fair. Deep fried cheesecake is awesome as are the deep fried margaritas, deep fried ribs, deep fried cinnamon rolls, deep fried strawberry shortcake, deep fried chicken wings - but that is only for starters.

This woman makes no sense. The answer is for the people who stuff their faces with this slop to have to pay for their health costs. If they had to do that, they'd be forced to spend less money on food unless they want it to kill them.

It sounds like what she is advocating is enabling people to pig out with no economic consequences.

She is correct, but the article title makes her think that is exclusively what she said. It isn't. Many people are VERY indulgent in their eating and eat really nasty food they have no business eating. I don't care but if we are truthful with ourselves, we know she is right. I hope she loses but McConnell still gets primaried out.

Speak for yourself. There’s lots of people who like that “slop”. Now if people ate it 24/7 there might be a problem. But the occasional slurping at the trough is a thing of pleasure. Life’s too short to be eating brussel sprouts and bean curds forever.

And if you shorten your life by a year or two, then so be it. You’ll die happier than some self righteous food crusader like Moochelle (who has a lard *ss if I ever saw one anyhow, regardless of what she eats). Besides which, these types are always cheating with the food when no one is watching, hence Obama’s recent overt intake of coconut cream pie while wifey wasn’t watching, and Paula Deen’s comment about how when Moochelle was on her program, she was eating everything in sight. I’m so sick of food police. And in particular I’m sick of their faux moral superiority. And the PC of it all. Bah humbug.

That’s all cool. I just don’t want to subsidize the medical bills of people who won’t take care of their health Why should I be forced to subsidize tests for high blood pressure, diabetes, screenings, obesity counseling or pharmaceutical drugs etc? What I’m saying is that if people eat that slop they should pay their own medical bills.
