A lot of FReepers are desperate to believe only part of the story when the facts are that there are a lot of different factions at play with islamists and progressives being the two biggest factions.

For instance the Tamarod movement which is an outgrowth of the Kefaya movement for change are now calling to end the peace treaty with Israel. In fact they supported Morsi until it became apparent that he wasn’t going to end the treaty. They sued and the case was thrown out and they immediately launched a campaign to oust Morsi. Christians and Jews will fair no better at the hands of one than the other.

Mubarak was the balancing point and without him, Egypt was toast and we should wash our hands of it.

I agree 100% that Mubarak was about as good as it was going to get over there.
