. . . while they all pretend that the problem was not their abandonment of conservatism, and continue to also pretend that no such abandonment occurred.

This time, I think he is right. As far as last year, running a leftist cost us the election.

Gingrich wants to reach around the aisle? I wish I could say I were surprised.

Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich told a meeting of the Republican National Committee that his party needs to move beyond its image of steadfast opposition to President Barack Obama and convince voters its goal is to improve the country.

I think he's right.

Before you can move beyond opposition to Obama, you have to oppose Obama. The GOP has not opposed Obama. What planet are these people from?

The GOP opposition to President Obama is non-existent. So, Newt wants to rally voters with a hope & change meme. These Beltway bozos are completely deluded. As the exsanguination continues unimpeded- we are treated to a penny theater farce by a celebrated clown conservative.

Maybe, but we still must run against his (and Reid/Pelosi) policies which are what has brought the country to its knees and the brink of bankruptcy.

He is the face and the leader of all of that and we oppose his namesake 0bamacare.

p.s. It worked effectively for the RATS in 2008 to run against the previous POTUS.

Screw newt... yeah I voted for him in the primary but he is a slimy self-serving creature of shifting sands. We should no longer take advice from a loser or anyone that has been a loser and newt hasn't won anything since he dropped his drawers and was booted from his Speakership and the House. We need fresh blood and those like Cruz and Lee are the real deal while newt is of the old gop/elite clan that really hates Conservatives. Hey newt... “The era of Reagan is over”... remember when Rush kicked your butt for saying it? I do and I also know that you are for the gop/elite so bugger off newt. WE CAN BOTH OFFER HOPE AND DESTROY OBAMA... what the hell is wrong with your multi tasking skills newt

Has Newt apologized for NAFTA, the WTO, pushing through “most favored nation” status for China? Has he admitted yet that the deficit increased every year he was Speaker? Still a huge fan of Woodrow Wilson and FDR? Has he explained why Romney money paid off his campaign debt?

Didnt think so.

Gingrich is a hack who needs to go away and leave us alone

No one is opposed to obama because he has a tan

the resistance comes from recognition of his disregard for us and our country

What’s the point when the media is only going to put a negative slant on their ideas.

party needs to move beyond its image of steadfast opposition

First of all there is no "steadfast opposition" from the GOP. Second, the "image" of it is a creation of the MSM, not the GOP.

For example, the recent round table with Gohmert, Castro, Brazile, Will, and Stephanopoulos. There was Gohmert trying to be the sweet old grandpa so everyone would smile at him, which they did, like he just drooled the letter R in ornamental cursive. Then they mentioned the extremist right wing Tea Party, and no one batted an eye because it's just a given.

The Republican Party is gently getting escorted off stage, and now Newt wants it to take extra meds.

I'm a Newt fan, but I have my limits. What we need is "steadfast opposition." That and a tax revolt, because ultimately the political class doesn't care what we say, only that we pay.

So, for all the Newt fans on here (who attacked those of us who knew better viciously during his campaign), tell me again what a great Conservative he is...

The gathering - the RNC's regular summer meeting - was originally scheduled to be held in Chicago, but Republican leaders decided to move the venue to Boston in the wake of the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing, which killed three people and injured about 264.

And, oh yeah, why does the RNC have its meetings in liberal bastions like Chicago and Boston but never in more Conservative cities in the south and west?

They need to run on a platform of visibly shrinking government. They can start by sunsetting laws and regulations. Then move on to pink-slipping a third of Federal employees, starting with congressional and presidential staffers, and getting rid of several extra-constitutional agencies.

RE :”Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich told a meeting of the Republican National Committee that his party needs to move beyond its image of steadfast opposition to President Barack Obama and convince voters its goal is to improve the country.
“We have to get beyond being anti-Obama and we have to convince people you can have hope in America,” Gingrich said on Wednesday. “What we have to do, in a sense, is be a party of optimism and a party of hope and show actual cases of how it can work.”

Check out the comments back and forth on this thread.

Many of them missed the use of word 'image' in the above. Ironically the same who claim that Newt was the shutdown hero of 1995 who brought Clinton to his knees are miffed by the above opinion/lecturing by him.

HA_HA, good old Newt lecturing his students.

I keep reading here (in comments) how Newt was the shutdown master who brought Clinton to his knees begging for mercy in 1995/1996 signing that unconditional surrender balanced budget just like the Germans had to in that French railway train car end of WWI. (Talk radio too)
Oh its is a grand epic bed-time story for the grand kids , just like David and Goliath.

Our role model Newt the Lion .... now this cold water Newt style 'You guys are too negative' LOLO.

Newt needs to sell more books. Ergo, Newt flaps his gums. He’s a loser and book salesman. He sucks.

Gingrich is basically saying that the GOP is being obstructionist on the issues of the day. That’s a pretty cheap shot. He’s basically echoing the Obama line. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
