The Crusades Reconsidered
American Thinker ^ | August 11, 2013 | Mike Konrad

One of the idiocies passed off for decades among Western historians is bemoaning the Crusades as evil. The Islamic world -- the Ummah -- has disseminated this imaginary charge against the West, and like fools, we have absorbed Arab lies and taken the blame to heart. But the most superficial reading of Western history should put that canard to rest.

Shortly before he died in June 632 AD, Mohammed ordered Muslims to prepare to wage war against the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire.

Upon his death, Mohammed's successor, Abu Bakr, planned to fulfill those instructions. Plans were also made to conquer Zoroastrian Sassanid Persia.

This vainglorious troop of bandits should have been easily dispatched,

However. Persia and Byzantine Rome had just come out of a savagely vicious war which ended in 628 AD. Emperor Heraclius had finally imposed the total defeat over Persia that had eluded the earlier Roman Republic and the Caesars -- but Byzantine Rome, though victorious, was severely mauled. Persia was reduced to a state of anarchy; and forced to pay indemnities to Constantinople.

The Persian and Eastern Roman empires were attacked almost simultaneously around 633 AD, while both were still licking their wounds. So frightening were the Islamic advances that these former blood enemies made a sadly futile alliance. By 644, Persia fell anyway.

By 634 AD, Byzantine Palestine and Syria were being attacked. The Battle of Yarmouk in August 636 AD would see Eastern Roman forces beaten. Emperor Heraclius, the victorious warrior, a mere 8 years earlier, would have to sneak out back to Constantinople in a boat.

I did not know it had a name, but the Spanish and the Catholic Church have been condemned by the moderns over their method of rooting out fake Christians while successfully prosecuting a guerilla war with the Muslims, a war that lasted over 400 years.

The moral of that story should be: when you fight that cancer, make sure you have air, land, sea, space, and intel superiority.

The current administration is making a huge strategic mistake with regard to the “War on Terra” by using NSA developed tools against domestic political opponents, thereby revealing those capabilities to the Muslim world.

“Fairly peaceful people”- with a ‘submit or die’ philosophy? That’s like saying Nazism is a fairly peaceful ideology as long as there is no SS. In Islam EVERYONE is the SS- it’s just that not all squads are activated yet.
We’ve got to get rid of this idea that Islam is ‘peaceful’ in its core. It is not. The Koran is a rulebook for war, death and world domination. To insist that there is ‘goodness’ to reach at the core of Islam is to volunteer to be the next Daniel Pearl.

Well the good news is that they are lot dumber than they were in 632 due to over 14 centuries of marrying their first cousins. The second crusade should be a little easier. :-)

It’s this sort of bigotry that has made FR a laughingstock all over the internet.

Or hi-jacking airplanes and flying them into office buildings or strapping on suicide-bomb vests and walking into a school, bus or crowded restaurant.

Well, I was responding to when they "appear to be peaceful".

Wait until a few of the ones Barky is letting in from Palestine and Syria blow themselves up at the food court in the Mall. I think you will see a mini crusade at that point.

this sort of bigotry

You mean the bigotry of refusing to be "tolerant of the intolerant"?

I lack a college education but fortunately not the time necessary to READ their stinking Unholy Koran.

Anyone who can read an is willing to read that book will come away with the same take on it that you posted.

islam is a death cult.

“It’s this sort of bigotry that has made FR a laughingstock all over the internet.”

It’s your sort of political blindness that has made the USA a laughingstock all around the Dar-el-Islam.

Why would you even associate yourself with such bigotry and a laughing stock?

There are a lot of other sites.

A corollary to this mythos is to cite the "golden Age" of Islamic Spain, aka Andalusia, as a time when benevolent Muslim overlords governed happy Christians and Jews in a great fellowship of "Children of the Book". Many propagandists have spread the concept that for a period of 300 years from the late 800s (A.D.) to the mid 1100s, the Islamic conquers of Visigothic Hispania 711-730 A.D., were kind and considerate to their Christian and Jewish subjects.

Perhaps by comparison to other eras and regions of conquest, maybe they were, but it was hardly a "Golden Age"! At no known time were the non-Muslims not subject to second-class status and increased taxation. Mass deportations and executions met most efforts to equalize the status of non-Muslims. While the Taifa rulers (local princes) were frequently weak and thus inclined to a "let live" religious and social tolerance, the relatively frequent waves of Muslim fundamentalism caused significant periods of intolerance and bloody repression in the 750 year period of Islamic Spain.

People tend to forget this period as explanation of why reconquered Christian Spain was so steeled in doctrine and orthodoxy and felt the need to expel Muslims, Jews and later Protestants as dangerous to what they had labored to reclaim. Remember that, even now, proponents of the "Islamic Caliphate" claim all of Spain and Portugal as part of Islam under the doctrine of once conquered, never given up.

We are witnessing the convergence of The Left, The Muzzies and the Global Fascists against the Christians and Jews.

The problem in the US is the media is owned by The Left. Academia is owned by The Left. And they have invaded the management of some of the major Corporations.

At 19 my father was packing an M1 across Germany, Belgium and Checz. Now there are here in our face. He and I talk about this almost daily. He will soon be 88 and he still knows the enemy.

"IF WE HAD ONLY FINISHED THE CRUSADES WITHOUT TREATY."

The Crusaders were pretty much constantly divided against each other, almost from the very beginning. They never had the numbers to maintain their power and it was pretty miraculous that they held on for the 200 years that they did.

Kind of like the Libertarians and Conservatives of the Republican party.
