After a close defeat in 2010, Republican Ken Buck announced on Thursday that he is running for Senate in Colorado again.
The Weld County district attorney, whose last bid included some highly publicized gaffes, becomes at least the fourth Republican to announce a challenge to Democratic Sen. Mark Udall.
In 2010, Buck lost to Michael Bennet, then an appointed senator and now the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. That race brought $16 million in independent expenditures, Political MoneyLine reported today.
However, at this point in the cycle, Colorado does not appear to be the same battleground that it was in 2010. It would be surprising if Buck were able to attract that kind of attention again, which could mean hes on his own for fundraising.
Buck joins Joe Miller in Alaska as the second GOP Senate nominee from the 2010 midterms to be taking on a different incumbent in their home states in 2014.
Already in the Colorado race are state Sens. Owen Hill and Randy Baumgardner, as well as businessman Jaime McMillan. Udall has a fundraising edge on them all, reporting $3.4 million in cash on hand as of June 30.

Is there any reason to believe that Ken Buck will do any better this year than he did in 2010? He’s good on the issues, but totally blooper prone.
I’m leaning towards Owen Hill, a strong conservative who seems to know how to work a microphone.
Only Republican gaffes are "highly publicized", Dem gaffes are ignored.
fantastic conservative. i’ll be backing him to the hilt again.
I’ve been hoping we’d get a good challenger in Colorado. It’s kind of a 2014 wild card, what with the recalls and secession upheaval. If there was a high wave, we might just sweep Udall away. I’ll have to give Owen Hill a close look.
He lost by a very slim margin, IIRC about 1,000 votes.
Six months later the CO SOS announced that their investigation showed that more than 5,000 illegals voted in that election. Wonder for whom?
The seat was rightfully his, and was stolen by Bennet (D).

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
It shouldn’t have been so close it could be stolen. Buck was a mini Sharron Angle, he blew it.
We’d be well served with a fresh candidate in this race.
Buck was a total fiasco and blew one of the most winnable Senate races in the 2010 cycle. He needs to stay out.
It would probably be more accurate to say Sharon Angle was a mini Ken Buck. She was quite petit as I recall.
LOL
