Fishing License Becomes Issue for Liz Cheney in Wyoming Senate Race
New York Times ^ | August 6 2013 | Richard L. Berke

Posted on 08/07/2013 7:39:14 PM PDT by WilliamIII

It sounds like a small-bore infraction: Liz Cheney, a United States Senate candidate in Wyoming, bought a state fishing license last summer even though she had not lived in the state for a year, as required.

But the matter has inflamed her critics in the state, who have already labeled her an interloper and taken issue with her challenge to Senator Michael B. Enzi in next year’s Republican primary. Mr. Enzi is a popular three-term incumbent who is as conservative as Ms. Cheney.

“It’s a serious misstep,” said Liz Brimmer, a Republican strategist in Wyoming and former chief of staff to former Senator Craig Thomas, a Republican. “Allegedly poaching in a state where being a resident sportsman is, by law, an earned privilege. Wyoming people will take this very seriously.”

So she's a carpetbagger? Big deal!

Your examples are worthless and show you have no idea what 'carpetbaggin' means. Both of those Congressmen moved to districts after being gerrymandered out of their old one. If you're looking for a good comparison between Cheney and real carpetbaggers then you should look to Hillary Clinton and Bobby Kennedy, who both moved to New York for the sole purpose of running for the Senate. If you have no problem with them then I can see why you wouldn't have a problem with Liz.

That’s about the gist of what we think here in Wyoming, too.

I have no doubt that the good people of Wyoming will take a good long look at both candidates and select the one who best serves their interests. I doubt you're that much different than the folks out here in central and western Nebraska. We were skeptical about Kerry when he moved back to run for the Senate, and his roots were deeper here than Cheney's were out there.

Cheney is choosing this moment to run to make sure the solid conservatives we have here, ready to run for Enzi’s seat, are kept out of the race. What allows her to do this is the neo-con money that will follow her into the state’s election process. Senate races in Wyoming are low-budget affairs compared to races on the coasts.

I think Cheney badly miscalculated. I think she honestly thought she could pull a Hillary and announce for Senate, scare off any primary opponents, waltz into office, and squat in a seat without having work hard to keep it. That alone is an indication she knows nothing about the folks in Wyoming.

A swing and a miss!

Didn't Dan Lungren and Tom McClintock move to new districts for the sole purpose of running for office? And they moved 400 miles--farther than Bobby Kennedy or Hillary Clinton moved. I call that carpetbaggin'!

I have no problem with what Bobby Kennedy or Hillary Clinton did, and neither did the voters of New York.

Well, if that's the case, she will likely lose. First of all, she has to beat an incumbent who has been there for a hundred years. Then she has to win over an electorate who once sent the New Dealer Joe O'Mahoney and the New Frontiersman Gale McGee to serve multiple terms in the Senate.

Then I assume you would have included Alan West in that category?

I have no problem with what Bobby Kennedy or Hillary Clinton did, and neither did the voters of New York.

We'll see if the people of Wyoming have the same taste for carpetbaggers as the people of New York do.

Let’s take a different tack.

Why are you in Lez Cheney’s thrall? What exactly does the pro-queer, pro-abortion, pro-big-government daughter of Dick bring to the party?

And I also notice... you didn’t answer my direct question.

Why not?

Do you need me to repeat it?
Do you need me to explain it?

I’ll be happy to do either.

Or... is the answer difficult and you’re sidestepping it?

It’s amazing that Liz Cheney has you petrified with fear—like a rabbit in front of a boa constrictor.

She may be soft on gay issues, but I don't think she's "pro-queer. Can you prove that she is pro-abortion and pro-big government?

ll And I also notice... you didn’t answer my direct question.

Because it's a loaded question. However, I like Liz Cheney because she's eloquent and outspoken and is willing to fight for conservative values. As that townhall participant complained on TV the other day, we are losing our country, but the representatives we elect won't fight back. I'm convinced Liz Cheney will, indeed, fight back.

I don’t *fear* Liz Cheney. She disgusts me, though. That’s different.

Wow! You feel just like they encourage you to feel on your teevee! How accomodating of you!

You’re a chump. You’ve been had.

When has she ever fought for conservative values? WHICH conservative values? Clue: talking about it ain’t fighting for it.

And on the issues — there is ONE very IMPORTANT “conservative value” that she doesn’t even agree with, never mind fight for.

Visit her webpage. Nothing— not one damn thing — spelling out her positions on the issues. NOTHING on what she’ll actually DO for Wyoming. Just a giant picture, a giant DONATE TOAY!!! button, and some vague feelgood crapola, half of which is in tiny print you can hardly read with no paragraphs.

Almost like she doesn’t WANT you to actually read it — she just felt it would be gauche to have that huge DONATE button with zero yadda yadda, so she threw in some yadda yadda.

Stare back into that bland, vacuous face that entralls you, won’t you? You seem as vague and noncomittal as she is. She’s counting on a certain amount of that, since she really stands for nothing as much as marking “Senator” off her born-to-entitlement bucket list. She’ll need your type of voter to even have a ghost of a chance.

You’re a chump. You’ve been had.

Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity have all endorsed Liz Cheney. Are they also chumps who have been had?

No, they’re part of the crowd that’s having *you*.

I wouldn’t give you a nickel for Hannity anyway. He’s a squishy douchebag himself, much of the time.

The other two are a disappointment. They’ve jumped on the “primary everyone” bandwagon instead of thinking this through.

I’m still wondering exactly where is the hard evidence that Liz Cheney is any kind of true conservative! As far as I can tell, the sum total of her contributions to conservativism are a) she started a PAC and b) she talks the talk, on SOME issues. Mere gumflapping does not count for much in my book.

The nitty gritty about where she stands and exactly what she is committing to do sure isn’t on her campaign website. You’re her fan — help me out here! WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE THAT SHE IS THE REAL THING?

Why is Liz afraid to run against a Democrat senator (in Virginia)? Instead of trying to increase the number of GOP senators, she’s running against a Republican

And until Liz Cheney announced she’s opposing him, Enzi wasn’t criticized — or even mentioned — by you or anybody else on FR. But now that Liz is challenging him, suddenly you have a problem with him. Your a Liz Cheney Sheeple. If she barks, you jump and salute.
