If this law-by-jury crap spreads to Texas, Lord, where could i move?!

The other day the meter reader surprised me outside and he could’ve gotten himself shot. I was bent down behind some plants and he popped out from behind a tall plant less than 10 yrds away. It scared him as much as it did me because he found himself looking down the barrel of an amply-endowed pistol before he had a chance to say anything!

At first, I got really mad at him for sneaking up on me. Then he politely reminded me that i had been the one hiding behind the tomatoE plants and he hadn’t seen me.

In my defense, i had recently killed 2 water moccasins, so i was already just a little edgy.

Yes but now what does he reap on this new day of freedom?

The current atmosphere is biased.

And I would suggest that you identify before you shoot.
Ages a go I had some drunken friends show up at 2 am who could not rouse me, So they jumped the fence to wrap on the window.

Glad I did not just plug away.
It sounded like breaking and entering.

If you are in my house without authorization, you have crossed my line and you have crossed several others to get there.

Now, as to the law.
The Law is made by Lawyers, so get wise and root out the vermin.

I actually think you have a very good, common sense approach. The thief wasn’t breaking into the guy’s house. He was apparently getting ready to break into a car. Yeah. The homeowner has the right to defend his property and then his life if he feels threatened, but that doesn’t mean wiser steps couldn’t have defused the situation. Like you wrote, just turning on the light could have ended the matter right there. Regardless of whether the homeowner is right or wrong, he’s going to get a lot of grief from the racial grievances crowd. That’s just the way it is, and I think it’s wise to keep that in mind.

Like I wrote earlier in the thread, I’ve done things I’m not proud of when I was a teenager. I got caught early on, and it helped change me. I don’t like the way some people write this 14 year old off as vermin. Yeah. The kid was wrong, and he was very foolish to risk his life for some small time thievery. But people can change, and sometimes it takes a significant event to make that happen. Teenagers do make foolish mistakes. It’s part of the learning process. So I think this event is a tragedy all the way around—for the homeowner who is going to be put through a legal rigamarole and the kid who will likely be paralyzed for life for making a stupid decision.

Alarms? Hah! I have a momma raccoon who would pull the door handle down and walk right in my back door if I didn’t keep the deadbolt locked. But she is becoming too tame, eats right out of my hand and brought her five babies several time this month already. Those little guys are fearless and would walk right int he house and ‘go through things’ if I let them in. It’s a good thing I don’t keep a key outside. Momma would let herself and her brood in and take over!

But also to the wider point, we must preserve self defense and personal property rights.

These people are hitting us with a thousand cuts.
We must deflect all of those tiny cuts.

In this case Obama/Holder are not a tiny cut.
They are usurping the rule of law and fomenting its overturn.

“Professional burglars never carry guns.”

That’s good to know.
I can take my time getting a good aim and my hand won’t be shaking as I shoot them down.

There are two methods of getting rid of raccoons.
Shotgun.
Or let them wipe you out and they move to the next place of opportunity.

The first one is hard on the racoons.
The second one is hard on you and it is hard on the neighbor.

I know.
They will wipe out a corn patch and months of work in a heartbeat.

Anti freeze works too but it could net local pets.

My neighbor across the fence has a garden. He keeps his dogs in the fenced garden at night. So far the raiders have left his ‘ark’ alone. I guess the dog food I give them takes the cutting edge off of their hunger. I try to feed only the momma and her little ones. I get lots of really cute pictures in return ... and a few little licks from the kits. Ya suppose their tasting me for future meals?

Again, we’re in agreement. The thief was 100% in the wrong. No doubt about that at all. People can call me a bleeding heart if they wish, but I’d much rather have had the thief caught and potentially changed than killed. People can change, even 14 year old professional thieves.

First off, does a homeowner have a legitimate right to protect their property? The thief wasn’t breaking into the home. He was apparently breaking into the homeowner’s car. So, does a guy have a right to leave the safety of their home and confront a thief that’s outside? If the answer is yes, then it’s only reasonable to assume a thief is armed until proven otherwise.

As I recall from a conceal carry instructor, during daytime hours you may use deadly force to protect property under your “roof-line” (everywere under your roof including a car port) from theft. At nighttime the limits extend from your “roof-line” out to your property line.

My memory is a little foggy but I believe that’s what the instructor said. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

This situation is a perfect example of why everyone should have a “throw away”.

Stupid remarks like this will come back to haunt you if you ever need to use deadly force for self defense. Do you think a good prosecuter wouldn’t subpeona for your computer, find out your online IDs and search your posting history?

Let me say this about the entire Trayvon Martin incident.
I am sure this kid was up to no good.
Most teens are.
We all were, but where the kid went wrong was attacking Zimmerman.
He crossed the line.
He might have given his sister a kitten for Christmas, but at the moment he sucker punches an innocent man, breaking his nose and then whappin his skull on the ground sayin You gonna die, He is no longer a sweet little shugga bear.
At that point he becomes a mortal threat.

I verbally popped off on a Federal Marshal once when I was a
kid. and the guy talked me down.
The guy wrecked my car, but I was out of line and he talked me down.
He took full responsibility and I learned a lesson in responsibility that day.
Another time I had Cops bust me up for giggles.
Life aint always fair but its less fair when you are stupid.
Tray Tray was stupid.
This kid in the current story was stupid, but I think Mr Landry was stupid too, and it could cost us in this political environment.

“And I would suggest that you identify before you shoot.”

No one can get in my small garden due to a high brick fence 8 ft. tall. It takes a ladder to scale the wall. If anyone gets in there, they have to break in someone’s locked yard behind me, then scale the fence. Anyone who has gone through that to get in, truly is up to no good.

There is one man who uses a ladder and scales the high brick walls in the day time and that is the bug zapper man when he does a yearly check on our townhomes. He carries his ladder from back garden to back garden.

Last year, I looked out and saw the bug man as he got into the garden - I rushed out to tell him I was sorry about the climbing rose on that brick wall. The thorns on that particular climbing rose are the worst I have ever seen.

He told me never to get rid of that climbing rose - that no one would want to continue to come over that wall once he hit one of those thorns. Bug guy was bleeding in several places from the thorns. He said it’s just part of the job.

I have done my best to save a robber’s life by installing the motion sensor and the vibration sensor on my back door. In the middle of the night, I am shooting the person who ignores the motion sensor and vibrates my back door, period.

The home owner was justified, but use common sense people.

You can pop a thief but you will pay.
Is it worth it for X amount of dollars?

Personally I don’t think I would kill anyone unless they were trying to kill me or my family or very close friends.
I don’t know that I would take out a perp at the 711.

Everyone was saved except for me and the asshole on the ground.
What’s the percentage in that for me?
Will I get the “Good Guy Award”?
Not Bloody likely.

I believe in property rights but as the law sits, A man has to wonder, is it worth it?

I’m just saying I have had people I know jump the fence drunk rapping on the windows at 2 AM.

Those people are long gone.
I ran them off 10 years ago.
I sure am glad I did not shoot them.
They weren’t even menacing, but they had squatters mentality.

And I had gun in my hand, but you have to know what you are shooting at.
I Looked at the faces and yelled at them.
WTF is wrong with you jackasses?! its 2 AM!!
