It's a basic human act, and it says a lot about society -- and the state of homelessness in Santa Cruz in the year 2013 -- that a discussion about keeping people from doing it in public places is even warranted. But here we are.
The problem: An increasing amount of human waste is being found along the San Lorenzo River levee and in downtown-area open space. People relieving themselves in public spots is apparently a growing problem in the city, one that has residents who regularly walk the levee path and business owners along Front Street -- many of whom have back doors that open to the levee -- absolutely fed up. Who can blame them?

“Gonna lay down my burden....down by the riverside”
-sorry.
The “root cause”? For poop? Umm...
50 - 60 years ago Santa Cruz was another of the Central Coast jewels. I used to go to the beach there (it was a lot warmer than Carmel) quite a lot as a child. It was even good into the mid-60’s until the hippies ‘discovered’ it.
Another lost bit of the old California.
Drove my Chevy to the levee and ... this is defecated to the one I love:
Yu Stin Ki Pu.
sorry sorry sorry
But, but, but...”the one” was elected...”this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth.” The people that voted for “the one” aren’t suppose to be behaving like this...He gave a speech, he said so. Why oh why are his voters behaving this way...
Is it the same type of people who turned the indoor stadium into an open toilet during Katrina?
Santa Cruze is a Liberal Hippy Hotspot.
They don’t mind poopy. “It’s all about feedom, Duuuude!”
The least the perps could do is to wipe themselves with the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
And send the result to the White House.
Eating! It has to stop!
Third world Obamanation.
I’ve always wondered what that line in the song meant...
Public defacation in rivers are very common in certain 3rd world nations.
Why should CA be any different? Wait till they start doing their laundry in the river downstream from where they poop.
Prepper ping. Santa Cruz human waste problem from homeless - how many more homeless if TS(literally)HTF? Got a potty that works without running water? Have enough toilet paper for maybe a year? Have toilet paper to give to family/others? Want to live in Santa Cruz, California?
I wonder if eventually these liberal cities will learn why in saner times the bums were kept moving along? Public health would even be worth a “beat down.”
